Hi all,

I have booked a couple of trips on SQ using the VA website and VA flight numbers (codeshare). However I have found this limits the flexibility to change flights if your plans change during the itinerary (EG: Was early into SIN the other night but SQ wouldn't allow me to fly forward as I was on a flexible fare VA ticket). Therefore I am thinking of booking my next trip on the SQ website, however I want to earn VA Status Credit and Points.

From reading the VA website it appears this is ok, however I am seeking confirmation from the knowledgable members of this website.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

Yes you will get VA Sc's and Points - however you won't get VA flight # credits - such as needing 4 for gold or 8 for Plat.

Thank you Comoman, I have the required flight sectors for maintaining gold, just need SC's so I think this time I will book via SQ and see how pans out.

Cheers

Hi all,
however I want to earn VA Status Credit and Points.

Also no bonus points for your velocity tier — but I've booked flights the way you want to do it, and status credits and the base points come through within a day or two. A bit easier to do seat selection if you wish to as well!

Hmmm good point I hadn't thought of, maybe I will book codeshare again as it's holiday trip I am planning so changes shouldn't be required.

Cheers
Dave.

My last 3 trips to Asia I've booked directly with SQ and received SC and points within a day or 2. Makes seat selection a tiny bit easier (SQ notorious for holding out on seats until check-in). The extra points booking VA codeshare is nice and the eligible sectors as well, but I've more than enough sectors this year so just save the extra few hundred $$ and book via SQ, doing this way also allows me to upgrade to J with points

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Interesting.. I need to book MEL-CMB shortly, assumed I have to book via VA to get all the SCs and points.

Will VA gold get singapore lounge access if booked on SQ flight numbers?

You'll get lounge access in MEL/SIN regardless of how you book. The only benefits of a VA codeshare are, as previously said, your point bonus due to SG status and those sectors for re-qualification.

And access is the Goldflyer lounge at Sin, the poorer version of Silverkris lounge. But in my experience still comfortable enough for a bite to eat and drink

I don't mind the Gold lounge at Changi - my only complaint is it has no showers, that is a big fail for me.

Yep massive fail, there is plenty of room in both Gold lounges for showers, not sure why they didn't put them in. They'd expect their own elites to be able to shower in other ports.

Thankfully the last few times I've been in Y i've been able to get Changi dollars and was able to use transit lounge for a shower. I only ever use one voucher per visit and have 3 or 4 left over

Also make sure you're booking a fare that earns points, normally the flexible fare isn't much more in $.

Also make sure you're not using any Krisflyer points to pay for part of the ticket, that voids any points/SC earn.

I've made that mistake and it cost me dearly.

I did a SQ trip using Velocity a few weeks ago. Points / SC take about 2 days to come through to your VA account.

Booking direct on SQ rather than Codeshare on VA website seems to be cheaper. Plus you can modify the booking, select seats etc with SQ direct.

How about family pooling on VA - if you book via SQ I assume this doesn't apply, but if you book via VA it would?

Family pooling is Velocity database setting, nothing to do with SQ. The SQ points are sent to the Velocity account, then the Velocity account pools/sends them to the family pooling member.

Does anyone know if you earn family pooling VFF points and SC's as well as Krisflyer points? Or will depend on the FF code you apply on the booking?

You only get what you earn, its the same for all airlines that code share.
I fly a lot with (Air) NZ, they are another partner with VA, and I enter my VA FF # into the booking, I could go join NZ Airports, but then would only enter the Airpoints # and can't enter both #.
You can enter your SQ KF # into the booking, earn KF points, and then transfer the value at an unequal 1.35:1, but there by on transfer, you do loose out on the KF miles, as that goes down, and the VA FF points and SC go up.
Can't keep a paw or hand in each FF program.
Only double dip is for hotel stays, under HHonors, where you can earn both airlines FF points and HHonor points.

Actually you do receive eligible sectors ( as referred above 4 for gold etc etc ) for code share as long as it is a VA prefix flight number

Per T&C's

Eligible Sector means a Flight Sector:
(a) that has been flown;
(b) that has not been booked as a Reward Seat;
(c) where Virgin Australia is the Marketing Carrier.

Marketing Carrier means the airline whose code the Flight Sector is operated under. For example, Virgin Australia is the Marketing Carrier for any flight number that starts with a VA prefix.

I have flown VA codeshare where Air NZ is the operating airline ( VA flight number ) and received eligible sectors.
