Good morning everyone,

Just a little bit of confusion I am hoping that someone can assist me with. I have checked the earning Qantas points calculator, but unable to get some information on this. I am travelling JQ SYD to MEL in Business Max on JQ035. But I am unable to see how many Qantas Points and Status credits I will earn for this flight on the calculator. Is it the same as travelling on QF in J? Or am I missing some quirk of the program? Thanks :)

JQ Business Max earns the same as QF Business.
For SYD-MEL you’ll earn 1,400-2,000 points, depends on your QFF membership tier and 40 SC.

Business Max is only available on international Jetstar flights isn't it? For domestic flights I thought you could only have a Starter Max bundle, which pays status credits at Qantas flex far rate. Which would net 20 status credits for Syd to Mel and 1200 points (plus any status bonus)

Unless the SYD to MEL leg is a connection from an international flight with a business max bundle eg AKL-SYD-MEL in which case yes it it would have the business earn of 40 sc and1400 points (plus stats bonus)

JQ35 is an international flight

On very rare occasions you will see JQi do domestic sectors.
Need photo id to go through quasi immi controls.

Related question.

If one was to select the Stater Plus Bundle with a Jetstar flight (with the goal here to earn SC for the flight). 2 questions:
1) I assume these would count as eligible sectors for requalification of status.
2) I note when performing a dummy booking when it comes to payment, you can elect to pay all or part of the fair using QFF points (which is obviously the fare plus the bundle). If used points, would you still receive the SC and eligible sectors. My guess is you should, otherwise the bundle is significantly de-valued.

Correct. Starter fare with Plus bundle is an eligible sector for status requalification.

Yes. Points Plus Pay on the Jetstar site is the same as purchasing a cash fare so you will receive SC's, QFF points and eligible sector recognition as you would paying cash. However do note that this is very poor value in terms of ways to use your points.

Also if you are chasing status credits, consider purchasing the Starter Fare with Max bundle. This earns at the Flexible Economy rate which is usually double that of the Discount Economy rate that the Plus bundle earns at. Plus you can also seat select anywhere in the plane including extra legroom and the fare is refundable to a voucher if you need to cancel.

I'm after 20 SC to re-qualify for Gold and 2 sectors, so need 2 short flights. I notice Jetstar have flights for $45 each way to Hobart and another $110 to get the Plus Bundle, so $200 or 40k QFF points. I have around 1m QFF Points.

I rang QFF line today and the operator told me no dice for an eligible sector. Mentioned it had to be a QFF marketed ticket. They seemed a little unsure of what the Jetstar bundle was all about. They also said I would not earn SC if paid with points. I'm not sure if I have been given dud advice, will try again, but interested if any other opinions or experiences.

Paid fair with Bundle will get the squiggle

You can't add the bundle to points fares.

What is "the squiggle"?

On Jetstar page when paying, it allows you to purchase your total fair (which includes the bundle). Anyhow cash maybe better (it's about 34k points or $200) so pointing that aside, the eligible sectors seem to be the biggest issue according to the operator I spoke with.

Wow. Everything that agent has told you is totally incorrect.

See Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas and Partner Airlines - Status Credits and Tier Benefits - Status Credits

Under How to reach Status it states "Take at least four eligible Qantas, QantasLink or Jetstar flights* in a membership year."

And then in the T&C's: "† The travel required in each Membership Year to attain or retain Silver, Gold or Platinum membership must include a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments where a QF, JQ, 3K, GK or BL flight number is on the ticket."

My Mum has only flown two flights this year. Both with Jetstar and a bundle. Her account is showing 2 of 4 sectors flown for the eligible flights goal section. Flights with the bundle are definitely eligible sectors. You also earn SC if you use Points+Pay on the Jetstar website.

Sorry I had to laugh at what the operator told you.

You received better advice here.

On the 8th March I flew on a Jetstar Flight of over 750 miles using starter Max bundle.

I recived 30 SC and 2200 points (as a WP).

The last time I looked, there is no longer the sign of a squiggle in QFF account.
Edit: the comment was in relation to Moa's reply above today.
Unless its been brought back.

Yep, just checked, it has (the squiggle) have not returned.
Its not in Status Activities either.
All it (my account) shows is the QF SC earn for this relevant SC earning year, and my LT SC haul.
(OT, yes, I do realise others fly a lot more than me, but I can't believe I have earnt 3500 QF SC in 25 years of flying with QF!)
At least they still have that facility of LT SC haul info, unlike Virgin, joined them in 2005, no such data!

The qualifying flights indicator is shown on your account page with 0 to 4 red aircraft icons. Have you made any qualifying flights this membership year?

Doing it this way rather than having a tilde (squiggle) against individual flights in the status activity makes more sense. The information you need is in one spot rather than having to trawl through your flight history.

Sorry to the OP for the thread jack.
No, no future bookings made, not so much about/re Covid19, more so just by chance/luck that I have not had the urge to fly VA or QF/or any airline of late, even prior to Nov 19.
At the moment waiting to see how this whole troublesome virus pans out.
