Apologies if this is a major-newbie question, but I've never flown domestic flights outside of Australia (sorry, I don't count NZ Domestic flights either ).

Can I earn QFF points on domestic JAL flights (specifically KIX-CTS) automatically just 'cause JAL is oneworld? Or is it only on QF codeshare flights?

If yes, how do I assign my QFF number to my JAL Flights? (I booked the flights myself online, not through a travel agent).

Thanks
Kevin

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

From memory you were able to that thru the online site, otherwise do at check-in.

BTW the upgrades to Business class (1000 yen) and First class (think about 8000) are really good value if available

Yes you do earn points and SCs. Definitely pay the Y1000 (($12-ish AUD) to upgrade to J. It's not really business class proper apart from the seat, however you do earn points and SCs at business rates.

Thanks all for the replies and the link to the info on the Qantas web site! You realise so much info is out there once you are pointed in the right direction. It's just hard sometimes to know where to start.. that's why I really value this forum.

Yes, I booked the J class for my flight out KIX-CTS (B767) for the extra 1000 Yen, but that class isn't available on my return flight :(. It's only a B738, and looks like it's seated all Economy. It's operated by JALExpress I think.

I think I'd call the J class closer to a domestic Premium Economy, and even then, you only get a drink! Glad to hear I'll earn at J rates though for that sector

No F class on the domestic flights I've booked, but definitely would've considered that too.

There's a high chance I'll only be QFF Silver (OW Ruby) by then, so I doubt that I'll get access to any Lounges on my Domestic flights over there, will I?

Unfortunately no lounge access for OWR/QFF Silver.

Bear in mind that JAL points posting to QFF can be a bit hit and miss - I've had to put points claims in for about half of all flights I've had with JAL.

It seems to be particularly painful for Haneda airport - Qantas only seem to recognise Narita in Tokyo, and when you put a missing points claim in the system seems to assume it is Tokyo Narita and therefore rejects the claim - took a couple of phone calls but eventually got sorted.

Keep an eye on it and if the flights don't credit within a week I'd put a missing points claim in.

Can anyone help me interpret how many points and status credits I'll earn for the following flights?

KIX-CTS return.
674 miles one way.

http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/partners/airline/japan-airlines

Super SAKITOKU Advanced Purchase Fare(Class J)¥12,500*1
SAKITOKU TypeB Advanced Purchase Fare¥21,000*1

Segment 1
Segment 2

My guess would be: (I assume Advance Purchase equates to Discount fare)
  • 0.6 for Segment 1, the Super SAKITOKU Advance Purchase J Class Fare: 674 * 0.6 = 404
  • 0.5 for Segment 2, the SAKITOKU TypeB Advance Purchase Fare: 674 * 0.5 = 337
Are Status Credits based on the usual QF mile zones? Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Status Credits
Segment 1 at Business rates (40 SC) and Segment 2 at Discount Economy rates (10 SC)?

Does anyone have any experience with these fares and how many points and SCs they earned?

Also, check out this thread for an update on how I discovered where/how to add my QFF number to the booking. http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/your-questions/jal-booking-how-add-qff-26153.html
