Let me see - just a few random thoughts:
  • QF93 MEL-LAX dep ~11:00 don't it? - like you are not going to down a few champers pre boarding hey?
  • TPR in SIN after 05:30 arr on SQ218 - like try refusing VCLGD or PH rare with your eggs benny!
  • Arr into PEK at 07:00 on SQ800 and you can't check into RBCH til 11 - you head to The Den for brekky - not trying a couple Bloody Mary's? Yeah right!
  • Breakfast with my 10 sisters at Cowes on Phillip Island last Sunday at annual pre XMAS family get together - try refusing a Bloody Mary there!
And that's just a few - my motto - sun is up - bottoms up!

10 Sisters!?!! ... no wonder you are such a mellow fellow... :p

Rule 1: It's sunset somewhere in the world at any particular time.

Rule 2: If you are stuck somewhere darkish (such as Anchorage in December), remember rule #1. :D

"Once the sun is over the Yardarm"

or is it Yard Arm?

As soon as I figure out what the heck a Yardarm is, I'll apply the rule. Right now, going with the aforementioned "5 o'clock somewhere" rule.

Special exception when taking a morning flight to the Islamic Republic of <insert location. Champagne breakfasts very popular in DXB.
Special exception when its dark outside - early morning to some but the night before to me.

Cheers skip

Well at 2.48am we have a cough doing burnouts down our street because he can. Rather than throw a rock at his windscreen I am glad that I have mellowed thru the use of champers and red wine.
It's ok he will slide off the road and be furious that he has hit a light pole or a tree and we can pay to patch his body up.
If only we could really put his genitals on top of his head.....

Wikipedia to the rescue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yard_(sailing)#.22Sun_over_the_yardarm.22

From which we discern that for those using the yardarm, 11am is an acceptable time to start on the rum. I'm sure a case can be made to use a different (lower) yardarm for champagne :D

This may not go down well with you lot:

A yardarm is the horizontal spar on sailing ships, to which sails were attached. It was attached to the masts by rope which allowed the spar to be raised, lowered, tilted or swung left or right to catch the wind.

Just work with it being 5 o'clock somewhere and wear a big dogs Tee Shirt.

Ha Ha, CE.
I knew you would be first responder to a thread like this !!!

Nothing wrong with a beer or 2 after an early morning round of golf.

And nothing wrong with having a low alcoholic drink such as champagne before an early morning flight.

There's nothing "low alcohol" about champagne...

I'm definitely not one to refuse a glass of lovely fizz (or 4) on a flight, no matter what the time of day...
