Early Arrival Singapore

We are arriving in Singapore from a cruise at 7am and our flight out to Australia boards at 7:40pm. I had thought to check our bags in to Qantas on arrival at the airport then spend the day in the transit hotel.
I have been to Singapore a lot so am not interested in touring about. My questions are:

1. Can we in fact check my bags into Qantas at about 8am and then go through immigration to the hotel ?

2. Would we be better to stay at a nearby airport hotel ?

3. Any other suggestion

Singapore is one of the few airports that operates early check-in counters, and website says up to 12hrs before for Qantas (there is a dedicated early check-in counter at T1).

Also the Crowne Plaza landside, but I suspect the airside hotels will be cheaper. Some hotels nearby at Changi Village if you want to look slightly further afield.
