flying back QF32 LHR - SYD via SIN shortly. I want to get some decent scotch that I've not seen in AU at LHR. Obviously with the layover in SIN on the way back will I need to clear security again to reboard after getting off for the layover. this happened at Bangkok on the way over and some people were getting stung buy the security dropkicks who wouldn't let them take their just purchased duty free back on board because it was more than 100ml.

This is the same in Singapore (in fact they warn you at LHR duty free). SIN purchases are given to you at the gate after clearing security.
SIN is pretty good for duty free and pricing is slightly better than OZ depending on purchase.
LHR pricing is pretty hit and miss anyway.

As an aside, I have manage to convince SIN security going the other way (duty free out of OZ) by showing that it was still sealed from MEL duty free.

Referring to a group of people as 'dropkicks' for simply doing their job and enforcing the rules is offensive.

The solution to this is to be prepared to put the bottles in your checked luggage while on your stopover in SIN and then check it through. I recently did that for a couple of bottles of Dom that I picked up at LHR for approx AU$120 compared to > $200 locally. I have done this many times in the past and never had a problem.

Even if you only have a layover in the airport, take a spare bag with you, clear immigration and then re-check the bag.

You may want to take some bubble wrap with youfor that purpose and then carefully surround the bottles with clothes.

But, as posters above note, if you try and take it with your cabin luggage, you'll have an issue.

Dropkicks LOL haven't heard that in ages. But that term is usually reserved for those uneducated rent-a-cops. Anyhow, rules are made to be broken. That 100mL rule is the silliest cough ever. Fact is, anything on the airside is supposed to be secure. So if you buy booze on the secure side it should be 'safe'.

So lesson is, buy airside, don't fly through low rent places like Thailand where corruption is higher, and keep the seals intact. Chances are the rent-a-cops were 'stealing' the grog and reselling it 50cents on the dollar, or perhaps even back to the duty free stores themselves! Unlikely but possible and wouldn't be surprised.

will QF allow people to leave hand luggage on the aircraft during the layover in Singapore? They did this for us when I travelled to LHR via Bangkok on the way over. I was in J class and will be in J on the way back also.

Cheers
