Hi all,

I will be Gold with Velocity next weekend after my Hobart status run is complete, which means (I believe) that I get Gold Hilton HHonours membership too.

I am planning a trip to Fiji in September and have been looking at resorts, have found this place:
Fiji Resorts - DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Fiji, Sonaisali Island

Before I book a more expensive rate than I need to, can I just check please?

1. Gold HHonours members get free breakfast for them and one other person in the room? (The page on Hilton website isn't clear whether I get to choose a points bonus or breakfast, or if they decide for me...)
2. Gold HHonours members get free wifi in the room?

Would I need to wait until I am HHonours gold or can I book now and then add my shiny new membership number to my reservation afterwards?

If those two things are true, I can book a much cheaper rate and will save over $700 on our week away!

Thanks in advance for any replies

1. you choose;
2. all HH members get free wifi (to the best of my knowledge)

Book away. Any status favours are determined in the days leading up to the stay, not at booking time and your account will automatically reflect your status at the time of stay (ie- gold). No need to add any details later.

Thanks so much for the confirmation, what a neat bonus! I'm excited for Fiji now :)

...and don't forget to keep an eye on the HHonors status after you have opted-in. A number of us had to chase it up - usually came through within 24-48 hours after calling Velocity.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Will do, no worries thanks for the heads up.

One last question if anyone can help please? Do I get the HH gold perks even if I book a package with Virgin Holidays which includes my flights and accom?

If nobody knows I will call Virgin to clarify before I book... I just found Virgin holidays are cheaper still if I book flights & accom with them. I even looked at booking reward seats (plenty of availability in both Y and J) and packaging that up with self-booked hotel but Virgin Holidays package is still $450 cheaper to get it all done through them, so I may just do it that way.

Its a surprise birthday gift so I don't want to spend more than I have to, hence my penny pinching right now...

Theoretically, no. There are however, plenty of reports of getting the status benefits in-house, just no points/stay/night credits.

I second that advice to call and follow up.

I hit Velocity gold around Christmas and opted in...nothing happened until I got around to following up 3mths later. Had it sorted within 24hrs though. (Although idiot me here missed out on his Hilton benefits on a trip to Melbourne in that time - too trusting that it would just happen)

Feels like the vibe is opt in via Velocity, then follow up with a call after a reasonable amount of time to ensure it gets done. Appears to be a hitch on the Hilton Side of things, as Velocity reckoned they could see my opt in and passed it on to Hilton on/around the original opt in date.

Also, enjoy Fiji!!

1. My experience is that you will only get the 'continental breakfast' in the 'executive lounge'.
Although this sounds great, it really does not compare to their usual breakfast. Expect toast, yoghurt, fruit, croissants, etc. No bacon and eggs etc.

2. All HHonors get free WiFi if booked directly from their website. I dunno if it includes third party booking sites (but I have found that the Qantas website usually has this included anyway, NFI about Virgin).
