Double Velocity Points with Agoda

Hi Guys

Did a quick search and couldn't see this posted elsewhere (apologies if I've missed it) - Agoda are offering double velocity points and the chance to win a $100 Virgin Australia gift voucher.

Competition/offer is running between the 8th and 21st of March, for stays between the 8th of March and 22nd April.

Couldn't see any mention of whether the double points offer is in conjunction with status bonus. i.e. uncertain if a WP gets 12 points per dollar spent (i.e. $100 at 3 points = 300 points, plus 100% bonus of 300 points, to a total of 600 points, plus WP bonus = 1200 points) or whether it would sit at 9 points per dollar spent (i.e. $100 at 3 points = 300 points, plus 100% bonus of 300 points, plus WP bonus on base points of 300 = 900 points).

Either way, 9/12 points per $ for a WP seems pretty decent.

I would think double the base points plus the base added on again for Platinum. Similar deal was running last year. Over Christmas & New Year I had a spend of circa $3K that delivered a hit of 27K points, very nice indeed.

I saw this promotion as I was looking to book a hotel during the (very tight) offer period. The only problem is you can generally get most accommodation at least 10% cheaper than what Agoda offers, if you have a promo code/coupon.

I ended up using Cheap Tickets (a US Expedia site) with a 20% off coupon. The Agoda and Cheap Tickets headline prices for the hotel were the same, but the 20% off coupon did not make the 9 or 12 VFF points/$ spent worth it (2.22c or 1.67c/pt). Using the BW World MC avoided the FX charge as well.

I went to look for the agoda link on Velocity's shop and earn site on Thursday and couldn't find it, so booked without the link... That's a pity!
