I'll be travelling with Mrs WWW within the USA, July '17. We will have two suitcases each so we're thinking it might be best to book J class to deal with our luggage requirements, but we'll consider Y if nothing else is available.

If anyone body can help me find J class (or do they call business class F within the US?) domestic flights using my Qantas points for the following dates:

1) 27 July 2017 from JFK to Dallas (preferable) or Houston (2nd preference) for 2 pax (if 27 July not available then will consider 28 July)

2) 30 July 2017 from either Dallas/Houston to LAX for 2 pax

I've searched using Qantas website but not had a lot of luck. If anyone has any other way that I'm not privy too I'll be grateful for assistance.

Qantas awards in premium cabins within the USA are generally poor value when first(business) class can be relatively cheap.

Check here: flights.google.com.

Select one way, one world/AA and business class.

Are you suggesting to buy instead of redeem? Not concerned about the value of the redemption.

That link you provided is dead. Are you linking to the generic Google flights page?

Yes ... purchase.

Sorry about the link, take the www out.

USD315 between NYC and DFW on 27th, likely to get some cheaper options in a month or two.

I agree that it's probably better to pay for J/F tickets on intra-USA flights.

There's no direct award availability anyway, but if you're still interested in using points, here are some flights with J award availability:

28 July (New York-DFW via Nashville): AA5531 LGA-BNA, connecting to AA1619 BNA-DFW

28 July (New York-Houston via Charlotte): AA2716 JFK-CLT, connecting to AA1831 CLT-IAH

Both 36,000 QF points + $5.60 each and you need to do a multi-city search to bring up these options.

30 July (Dallas-LAX via Salt Lake City): AA1315 DFW-SLC, connecting to AA6015 SLC-LAX

Nothing available from Houston, but you could add a connector IAH-DFW flight in Y on the morning of 30 July and use the above option. In case you're interested, there's also a direct DFW-ONT flight (AA194) available on 30/7.

Same price as the previous leg - 36K QF points + $5.60 each.

Thanks a lot for your help Mattg. That's some interesting options but by this stage of the trip, time will be a little tight so I think connecting through multiple cities to get to the destination seems like more effort than worth for the saving involved.

So to confirm, you found these options using the Qantas multi-city search option?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I found the flights by playing around on the AA website, then double-checked that they were available on the Qantas website. The only way to get these connecting flights on a single ticket with QF is to use the multi-city booking tool.
