Hi! Just wondering if anyone has been to the Tullamarine Airport Virgin Lounge, and is it worth going early to just sit there  for 2 hours?

Depends what the alternative is I guess.

I wouldn't leave home early just to sit in that lounge (some I might :)), but if I finished a meeting early downtown. I would head to the airport and ensconce myself in the lounge to read, do the e-mail thing etc.

It's a reasonable space for a domestic lounge. An hour in there is plenty.

I enjoy the Melbourne lounge, and enjoy kicking back watching the comings and goings of the aircraft. Coupled with FlightRadar it's an enjoyable way to spend time in the airport. But if it's dark (early morning though they're getting lighter, or night time), there becomes less to see and subsequently, not as fun an experience as watching the aircraft movements. Of course, if you're into such things (and I am :)).

If I have mid-morning flights, I still get there early morning to get a good seat and watch the international carriers etc. It's a good way to work and be distracted at the same time.

Understood, it is just a place to chill really.. thanks for the advice

No it isn't.
Unless you like a vast barn with badly stained carpets or are an AV Geek as it does have a decent view.

Haha not surprised, after seeing the International lounge for Cathay which was quite simple already, not surprised! Will check it out, but will be there 1 hour early as opposed to 2. Thanks princess for saving my life again :D

As a VA and QF gold, the VA lounge in Melbourne is miles ahead of the Qantas club..(In personal opinion)
It can get pretty busy though, I'd give yourself an hour... If I'm ever running early and in there more than an hour I go bored out of my brains...
Great Views for any AVgeek though.

It's very much different strokes for different strokes - I'm a loyal VA flyer, and I really like the Lounge and its styling. When I went into the MEL QC with my dad, I was... pretty underwhelmed, except I did quite like their airfield view. BNE was ok but yeah, wasn't the same.

Dad later went into the MEL VA Lounge when travelling for work and really didn't like it, so I guess it's what you're used to, and what you like. It's like, warm and earthy (QF) vs modern stylings (VA).

VA have been lifting their game in the Lounge department, which has been very welcome :)

Checked out the Melbourne Virgin Australia Lounge, Surprisingly it is actually a lot better than I thought, it is actually better than the Cathay International Lounge at Tullamarine Airport !?!?!? Decent Service, and liked the idea of the cafe in the midst of it all. Will check out Sydney Virgin Australia Lounge, wondering if it is better..

The CX lounge at MEL is known to be bad. Personally I like the VA MEL lounge over SYD.

Agreed - while Sydney's styling and design is familiar, the layout is a bit weird, and I don't like that you're sort of teased with potential airfield views on the lower level but there is obstruction most of the way around (is it an aerobridge? I can't recall...). From memory I can see the airfield when standing but not when sitting. And last time I was there I didn't go upstairs so I can't comment on what the upper level has on offer in that regard.

but I feel that Melbourne has a lot more on offer visually for more people - I think there weren't too many seats up top in SYD that had good airfield views.

Side note - quite liking what they did with BNE, again wishing for airfield views but it's a welcome refresh.

Artistically stained carpets is it Princess Fiona? Haha. Hearing the reviews, I think the Sydney one is worse and About to get a rude shock. But as long as they serve ham and eggs and coffee, I'll be right ;);)

Hahah your from Melbourne too right? I'm sure the Melbourne one is better *cough * just because it will be. Checking it out this Sunday the Sydney VA Lounge, will have bragging rights to bag it out if it's as bad as described here :p

I agree. SYD is a bit awkward in its layout. Other than being landside, MEL is as if they started from scratch and made the lounge everything it is supposed to be.

I agree with most of the comments here about the betterness of the MEL VA lounge over the Sydney effort. Sydney, like the CBR lounge is just a bit too over styled for my liking. The Melbourne lounge is more liveable.

As for the QF dom lounges at both Tulla and Syd ... they've got that whole Rooty Hill RSL thing going on. Give me the VA lounges any day.

My favourite dom lounge ever was the second Golden Wing lounge at Sydney's T2 - it's gone now, an open plan food court. But I really used to like that lounge. The barman used to make me martinis there. They were probably cough but I was about 20, so what would have I known. And there were minties. I used to practically float on the 9.15pm to Perth. Good times.

The premium exit makes up for that if departing from MEL, and almost if you're transiting. Then again, when departing MEL from T3 I've never been behind more than 2 other people in the security queue.
