Just interested in a consensus of opinion here.

To me the JetStar business max offering is absolutely rubbish - you pay usually many hundreds of dollars to get QC access (which many people will have as gold or platinum members) and FF points.
And I'm certainly not paying for a business class fare and not getting FF points on a Qantas airline.
It seems like a ridiculous model.

I have not flown JetStar once since the change came in and plan to keep it that way (I flew star class regularly prior to the change).

No - I don't.

I've only flown JQ twice. Once SYD-OOL and only because QF don't seem to want my money on that route (DJ was too pricey and at the time was still a no-frills airline, but I'd have paid extra for QF full service).

The other time was SIN-PER in 2009 on a JQ A320 in whY. Was a fine flight but wouldn't choose it over QF whY in the future.

I flew them regularly OOL-NRT in Star Class until the changes.
Now I fly my staff from Shibuya to Brisbane, which they love.

But then again, I need my Japan fix every year, guess its QF via SYD in September.

Flew *class MEL-SIN-MEL, and was happy enough with it that I was considering it again, until the business max model made its debut. And I now cannot see myself using them again (never say never, but highly unlikely)

Yes I do, it is a cheap way of getting status credits.

I did a trip to SIN in Jan and have another in OCT to BKK.

I pick times when the MAX component isn't too expensive and it ok value.

I'll make 2,400 SCs this year with these trips.

Whilst I agree with the general thrust of your argument, it should be noted that:

A. Jetstar don't have Business Class, they have Star Class.
B. Jetstar is only a Qantas Airline when it suits Qantas, other times they like to completely separate the brands. Sort of like SQ and TT.

I did from Melb to Sin; needed it for the SCs.

Service was OK;didn't like the blankets in the plane though; left me fluffy all around the pants.

Exactly the same story here. Whoever designed this was either stupid or had a mission to drive away potential *class passengers.

NO, but I would if the price was right. And I have seen it right a couple of times when doing random searches.

Suggest you rethink that, Starclass is no more. It is called Business Class not Starclass. I'm pretty sure the OP was simply reflecting that reality.

It was ok when you could fly *Class MEL/SYD for $239 (IIRC) and earn 40 SC's and 1125 QFF points.

Hasn't been called Star Class for some time now... well over 12 months at least! I describe it to friends as "like Qantas Domestic Business Class". I've never done a real-airline's International Business class, so can't really compare. I took JQ Business Class from CNS-KIX last December and purposely paid the extra for the Max fare especially to get the SCs. It helped me get to Gold, and now I've made it to Platinum and 24K, so I've had quite a successful year. First time SG and WP. It was around $1700 return. I'm pretty sure QF and JL both were more than that for Y out of BNE and SYD, so for a larger "couch" chair (as I describe them to friends), free* food (it wasn't fantastic, but okay), drinks, entertainment (though still wasn't iPad when I flew), I was happy with what I got.

*when I say "free", I mean "included in the ticket", so I guess it's not really free!

Going to try SYD-HNL in a few weeks.

Hoping I'll be able to check in at the PER QP as we're going HLO & want to maximize F Lounge time!

Yeah fair enough, but I was trying to make the point that Qantas themselves feel the Jet* Business product is inferior to the Qantas J product in both the overall offering and the price. And so they don't like to reward the patron with the same benefits. If you want those extra benefits then Qantas would like you to pay extra.

I'm with the OP in that I used to fly the occasional BKK/SIN-MEL StarClass leg, but have not flown any since the changes. I felt that JetStar should have at least offered Discount Economy FF Points and Status Credits for their entry level Business Class and then have the MAX option for the full J earning. They obviously think differently.

I think that just proves what we all know, they are two different and competing airlines despite the BS about being a qantas group airline.

I would say full Y points for business, since (many years ago) Jetstar marketing basically said Starclass would be priced at the full economy price point, I assume that's the QF pricing.

It's not as cheap as it used to be, but for $899 one way to Singapore, Business Max is not a bad product for the price that you are paying.

I flew with Mrs GPH last year to Japan ( out of OOL)
Went biz max. While it wasn't the same as QF in J BNE-SIN. It was IMHO quite good.
Inexpensive. And a lot more comfy than Y.

So add on the SC's and miles and frankly I was content.
Not looking to make a regular thing of it mind you.
