Gosh, first DJ Pacific short haul and already on my second question.

Have what seems to be enough points to upgrade in one direction from Brisbane to Vanuatu (just over 10k). A QF flyer so these will sit here forever and thought I'd use them.

I think it was a Freedom fare over (HZFDAR) and cheaper back (VZEVAR) but maybe I have this wrong. If I'm reading tables right it would be 4,900 each to upgrade on the flight over but when I select upgrade my flight I get an error straight away saying upgrade not available.

Is this correct? Is it wrong fare class or do points only upgrades actually not exist?

You are correct.... 4900 points going over however 8000 points coming back. The best way to check is to see if there are any reward seats available. If there isn't then you are out of luck. If there is a reward seat available then you should be able to upgrade at least one leg. If this all fails then contact VA customer service and see if they can shed some light.

Good luck....

Only wanted to upgrade on the flight over. I might call and check, or buy a toaster ;)

Sometimes routes with points upgrades available can only be done over the phone. One example is Launceston, where any flights to/from there can't be upgraded online for whatever reason. But it's perfectly fine over the phone if the business reward availability is there.

I called this morning and although confirmed that the flight is upgradable, no award seats are available. That's cool, it's only a short flight. It was suggested I try closer to departure. I'll give it a go but no biggie if we don't get it.
