We're looking at flying AKL- LHR or EDI Late Jan ~ 27-29 depart and returning to AKL by Feb 19.

NZ and SQ are too pricey at current rates. EK/EY/QR are on sale ex Oz. Angling to try QR and EY products Y and J on the A380 or A350 (QR to SIN) but by the time I get confirmed annual leave from partner the sale will be over ex Aus. Not sure if they'll have another between now and Jan.

EY you need the value fare to upgrade to J (or have the chance to upgrade).
QR it seems minimal chance of upgrading so only option is to buy J back one way on the same PNR
EK I think you also can't upgrade from the special fares.
I thought about QF Syd-SIN then another carrier onwards as we may stop in Asia on the return leg as an option but then realised I need a saver or flexi fare to upgrade also. Scoot biz is the alternative to this with a voucher + pay type option.

These are different to NZ where seats 2 suit are available on some routes (not longhaul) and you can buy the seat fare then upgrade to PE so its a bit of an eye opener.

I can I think look at buying a sale fare one way for EY QR at least for the sector to try Y on, but I'm just realising if I want to jump to J then I may not necessariy need to keep an eye out for sale fares for these airlines?

Anyone else come to that conclusion?
