DL and VA systems integrated pretty well

I think I've mentioned previously that I've been impressed at DL's recognition of VA status. Thought I'd share a recent tidbit I found pretty interesting.

I've just had a flight for this weekend to Central America booked for me by our partners over there, and some bozo in the travel agency messed up my name (LAST FIRST MIDDLE instead of FIRST MIDDLE LAST). Anyway, that's not the interesting bit - what I found more interesting was that although I could get into the 'manage my flight' booking using the wrong name, when I was there I couldn't enter my VA details, as a message saying the 'name linked to that account did not match the name linked to the booking' immediately came up after pressing enter.

They've finally fixed my name, and now everything works.

It seems VA at least do a pretty good job of keeping DL updated on who to treat as elites, and DL do a pretty good job of recognising them. Just found it interesting.

I am about to book return flights Honolulu to Atlanta

Flights are with Delta and I will be paying cash for the fare
I am eith Velocity so can I claim Velocity points?
if so how do I set it up?

Enter your Virgin FF # during the booking process. Only once in 8 years had trouble with points and SC's crediting and I'll assume that was because we took a voluntary bump. I love Delta, their extremely reasonable first class prices are all that keeps me gold

I have enough points to use velocity.

Distance is 4500 miles, earn will depend on fare class booked for both miles and SC. Do you have status with VA?

Have to agree that DL & VA systems work well together with points posting to VA account happening quite quickly and VA status recognition appearing on boarding passes. I just wish the same efficiency occurred with VA & EY!!

And the Delta app seems to work better as well. Ive got DL booking but VA metal and I can select seats and view other cabins ect on the Delta app.

Some days its hard to even see/change my VA seats on a VA booking.

As the others have said, just enter your VA FF number in the booking process or manage my bookings page. If you have status it should show up straight away - and usually points from my DL flights show up in my VA account before the VA ones do! (e.g. if it's VA to LAX and then DL to PHX, BOS etc.).

I've usually found the points quite a lot lower on DL than VA if in discount economy, but equal in other classes. But remember, there will be no status bonuses either on DL. Status credits are roughly the same and DL flights usually a bit cheaper.

There is one slight issue, in which is you are ticketed by VA, if VA make a schedule change the DL system doesn't automatically update. They will check you bag into final destination, but you need to see a VA agent at the gate for boarding pass.
