DJ have just (yesterday I think) released an iPhone app. It's largely based around highlighting cheap fares, but has other functions too.

Have had a bit of a play and it looks good. Shows cheapest flights simply and easily, including a future price custom alert feature, then allows you to book. Also enables mobile check-in, flight status, and manage.

From my dummy usage so far, a great app IMO.

Would have liked to see some integration with Velocity though. I can remember my account details to manage a flight, but not reservation number. Hopefully Velocity integration is 'coming soon'.

Anyone else have thoughts on the new app?

Needs an Android app.

I am sick and tired of companies thinking that everyone has an Apple device....

Market share is evening out rapidly and both apps should be released at the same time

No Android

Pity.

Why would anybody want an iPhone, Android, Windows Phone or Symbian app unless you pushing info to the consumer? As Windows Phone 8 demos have shown, a good html5 website can deliver a fantastic experience across all OS, and Apple doesn't get a cut or stymie the process.

I agree apps are a waste of time just invest in a great mobile site. Please to see QF just upgraded their mobile site again.

Marketing people will say that from all data Apple consumers are key influencers with higher disposable incomes than the android crowd. That's another reason why they focus on Apple first.

Hopefully they can work out any bugs before releasing Android app

I have a foot in both camps. I have an android phone and an ipad. There's a very good reason why iphone apps tend to come out first though and that it takes less time to develop them due to the common hardware/ screen size. A good android app needs to be tested on many different configurations and that inevitably takes longer.

As for a good mobile site: yes, it's essential although there are a few areas where an app is a much better bet. Specifically the "alert" function that VA have set up to search for cheap fares wouldn't really work on a mobile site. A good app (not the VA one - yet) also can retain a lot of information when offline which is particularly useful when travelling or outside mobile range.
