Not sure if this has been posted before. Received an email from QF overnight offering me QC at a substantial discount:

As one of our regular flyers, we'd like to remind you of the benefits you could receive as a member of The Qantas Club. To recognise your ongoing support of Qantas, we're offering you the chance to access these benefits by becoming a Qantas Club member once again at exclusive rates.

Your exclusive Qantas Club membership rates*

1 Year: A$245.00 (incl. $22.27 GST). You save A$160.00.
2 Years: A$395.00 (incl. $35.91 GST). You save A$335.00.

Our 4 Year membership option is also available at the standard rate of A$1370.00 (incl. $124.55 GST).

These rates represent savings of up to 46% on the standard membership fees, are not transferable and are only available for a limited time. We're also waiving the join fee which would normally apply, saving you a further A$370.00.

Quite a good offer, but of little use to me as I am AA emerald (would help out for US domestic flights, I guess)

Funnily, although it says "as one of our regular flyers", I am not a regular QF flyer, as far as QF is concerned (I always credit to AA, except for a heavily discounted LHR-SYD a couple of months back, that I credited to QF; I also had a QF award flight about 10 months ago). But I guess that makes financial sense - sign up people to the QC if they think that you aren't going to use it.

I just paid $550 for 2 years  wish they did this a loong time ago :)

Oh well!

FWIW The Lounge is also "discounting" for new memberships up until 30 June. The deal is to sign up at full rate and receive $200 flight vouchers. Not for renewals sorry.
Virgin Blue Lounge Promo
cheers

how do you sign up for that rate? Did you have to call them directly with your FF number?? I would be very interested in that, but did not receive an email, what a shame I dont seem to have been targetted. im only a QF Bronze though, only flown QF 4 times in the past year.... mostly fly with * Alliance.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

If I'm targetted (fingers crossed), I'll be in like Flynn. $395 for 2 years and no joining fee. That's actually a reasonable rate as far as I'm concerned. There's no way I can justify paying the 'normal' rate.

I am only QF bronze (or maybe nothing??), and have only had one paid flight with them in the past year, and one redemption flight (other than a bunch of flights that were credited to AA). Makes me think that they are targeting people who probably won't get a chance to use it much. Of course, I am normally wrong.....

Anyhow, this is how you apply:

To take advantage of these exclusive rates, you'll need to contact us at The Qantas Club Service Centre on 13 11 31 between 8am and 7pm (AEST) Monday to Friday and apply for membership before 31 July 2009. These rates are not available online

But it is targeted, and not transferable. No harm in trying though.

Sounds to me that this is a grab for cash from QF at least. I can't imagine that they think there's plenty of space waiting to be filled in the clubs.

DJ's situation may be different since the Lounge isn't quite as well patronised.

Or maybe I'm just too cynical

In the email you received it says become a member 'once again'. Are you an ex-QC member? Thanks for the info anyway, might be worth a call to them.

If a non-targetted person follows this up, let me know how you go... definitely worth considering.

I've just made a phone enquiry. It is strictly a targetted offer. She didn't know who was being targetted but was able to tell me that I wasn't included in this round of offers. She did say that they'll be doing it in stages so as not to be inundated with calls. -- Fingers crossed I'll be in the next batch.

What a shame. Well, there is still hope of future emails I suppose. If they send it to me, ill sign up in a jiffy.

I have never paid for membership, but have had complimentary membership through qantas status.

What a great offer. Just a tad more than what I used to pay with corp. discounted rate.
