Digital Passenger Declaration to Replace Incoming Passenger Card

Does anyone know if the DPD is temporary or permanent? I had to use it for the first time this week and it's a complete crock of garbage.
Looks like its permanent, and will replace the orange IPC sooner or later.
I don't mind the form filling, but having to use my phone to read the smartchip in my passport might be the main hiccup, not that I have tried to start.
This, as I have moaned many times, really deters me from int travel again.
Form filling, as in typing your travel plans onto a website form, thats ok with me.
But the DPD is so much effort, really, if all a person wants to do is a short stint over to ZQN for some snow.
Thredbo/Perisher will be my go to zone from now on.
NZ also has its NZ Travel Declaration, also online, then have to also do their IPC as well on the plane.
Also so much effort and work to do.

For sure, I work in software engineering, and the UX as well as functionality of this app is a total disaster. It could be so much easier and better designed, but I guess you will never get it from government.
 
I wonder what the multi racial inclusivity is, for those whose English is not as good, in this form filling.
What with Aust immigration IPC in other languages apart from English.
 
Would it be a "good enough" excuse though?
If we make the effort to go through, maybe 25%30%/35% of the process.
Maybe set up an (Aust) immi account first?

Oh, ah, I see, Aust immi account is only for those who do not already have Aust citizenship.
So, its straight to the DPD section of the Home Affairs website, to the webform, if a person does not want to go the "app" way.

Update. A colleague of mine just emailed who arrived in Syd. Flew 24 June from YYZ-ORD-LAX-SYD only added the Flight LAX-SYD. He did in Travel History answered "YES". And added USA. It was accepted. The summary showed Departure port LAX - Los Angeles - USA Arrival port SYD - Sydney - Australia. He uploaded the summary on United Travel Ready it was accepted & he was able to do online Check-in.

Initially, I had trouble logging in to my DPD account…it kept rejecting my user name.I finally got that to work.
Once inside,I was able to have my iPad scan my international vaccine certificate and I uploaded my passport,
and added my two flights. I then submitted it all, and received an email back stating that I was all set.
This was 5 days before my first flight, which is tomorrow. I subsequently received an email from the airline stating that I was
set and checked-in, and ready to fly. Perhaps the recent DPD app download helped Make this DPD experience work well
the first time, once I was able to access my account.

Ditto. You need to start with your first international flight rather than the one that arrives in Australia.
You & all the other posters who replied to my posts were 100% correct. This morning I completed & submitted my DPD. I took your advise. I started with my First flight from YYZ-EWR. It accepted. 2 Flight from EWR-SFO would not accept. For the second flight I entered my flight from SFO-SYD. It accepted & saved. I answered "Yes" in My Travel History. Declared USA. Once I completed & Submitted. The DPD summary with number starting with letter"D" was generated. I printed.
The DPD Summary only displays one flight which is the first flight, for me it was YYZ-EWR.
I also received an email : DPD Status Notification with 3mins of submitting. With the following:
"You have completed all information required before check-in.
Print a copy of your DPD summary screen or save an image of the summary screen on your mobile device to show at check-in along with your COVID-19 vaccination information."
BTW, 20 mins. Thank you to all the posters who gave me valuable advise.

which probably, if challenged, is incorrect as they had been in two countries, one not listed, for the last 14 days as per that question. They just weren't challenged but could be problematic if someone decided to do so.

Just used the app again and reverted to the much quicker desktop. Three goes to scan the passport (would have been quicker to enter the details, I know them all off by heart anyway), and stalled at scanning vax certificate (foreign one), so went to website, uploaded certificate and then again had to enter my vaccination details manually. This is the biggest problem, you have an account, but still have to upload all your details every time you come to Australia, and with a foreign vaccination certificate that means manually.

By contrast coming back to Singapore from US on Monday, it took 10 secs to complete the Singapore arrival information (driven by national identity number, all the information is the background as government systems talk to each other).

I guess some of this inconvenience is the price we pay for "privacy" and not having any form of national ID in Australia.
 
An amusing letter in Todays traveller email who recounts an experience of an Aussie government app worse than the DPD. Departing DRW she had faithfully filled out the TRS claim via the app and showed the officer the QR code. Then was told sorry the Darwin computers can't handle online applications. you will have to fill out the old form.
And still some people think the Government is more efficient than private enterprise.

That is one of the strangest comments I have ever heard. Darwin was hooked in the national Customs computer network by at least the mid 1970's and had the same IT access as any other port. Until the late late 1970's - possibly early 1980's - the Customs network was used to tabulate the Federal election results on a national basis. By around 2003 I could access all our national IT systems and databases on a laptop via WiFi anywhere a signal was available - using an encrypted dongle as security of course. Around the same time patrol boats off the coast had full access via satellite - which didn't make the crews overly happy as they were never out of touch with their bosses. It is possible the TRS system was down and it may have been 'easier' to process a manual form later but it still seems a very odd statement.
 
SMH July 3rd:
'Foreign citizens seeking to visit Australia will no longer have to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status, bringing to an end one of the tough border control measures enacted because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Health Minister Mark Butler said the change to the Biosecurity Act will come into effect from 12.01am on July 6th and was based on advice from Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly.'

How will this affect the DPD I wonder 🤔?
