The below is in relation to QFF classic rewards redemptions on EK flight numbers and metal.

I had a first redemption booked from AUS-EURO through DXB – as they are connecting flights booked together the total redemption cost is discounted to 168k points.

Now, the strange part that I have never experienced before. I wanted to change my DXB-EUR destination as a new preferable EUR destination became available that I could book online. I rang up QFF, and whilst I could book the new DXB-EUR as a separate flight they could not amend my current flight to swap the DXB-EUR flight. They could amend my current booking to only leave my AUS-DXB flight, they however would not amend to add my new EUR destination to the booking.

Their advice was just book it separately, which I could but pointed out that I would be slugged more points being 183k instead of the discounted 168k as per; AUS-DXB - 108k, DXB – EUR - 75k, Total - 183k.

Has anyone experienced this before? To sum it up, it appears that you can’t modify your existing booking for a change of your connected flights destination to include using one the flights you currently hold in the booking. I rang multiple times to speak to different people, and they all went through different process’ but came to the same conclusion in which they couldn’t help me. They all referred to it as booking rules with Emirates and their systems were incompatible etc.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

So not that anyone commented, but long story short for others that may have the same issue.

After several phone calls over months calling BS to their false responses and not accepting no for an answer, when the fare booking rules allow this, Qantas today managed to amend my flight to include using the first leg we already had. They finally admitted it was system errors and lack of integration between themselves and Emirates for not allowing this, instead of blaming it on concepts such as married flights and award booking rules etc. The way they achieved it was through a Qantas business analyst whom could amend the flights in the backend as their normal tools would not do the job.
