The more I read here and around the 'net the more confused I get about which option will be best for me. My situation is probably different to most on this forum in that I travel only enough these days to probably make Silver QFF status - I've slipped this year from Plat to Gold. Therefore I'm not going to be accumulating a lot of FF points in future so I'd like to continue earning them through CC spending for future trips.
I currently have a CBA Commonwealth Plat MC which allows 1:1 FF points conversion. I'd like a similar ratio if possible but with a lower annual fee (I think it's currently 250/year with the usual "free" travel insurance). However if I'm mostly going to be redeeming FF points to travel and not buy on CC then that is a moot point as the travel insurance won't be included will it?
Interest rate doesn't bother me as I pay the full monthly balance to avoid any interest.
So from looking at the options on the QF website I'm leaning towards the Westpac Earth dual card option - Westpac Amex and Mastercard. Key features are a low annual fee of $75, uncapped points and $1:1point on the Amex - Mastercard is only $2:1point. But with Amex still widely accepted without prejudice (or extra surcharge) I figure there shouldn't be too many times I can't use the Amex.
Any others in a similar situation as me with any advice or tips on what else to look for in a new Direct Earn option?
Thanks.
