JQ announces intl business class sale..great

tried to book MEL > HNL - $2k return...woo hoo.

add max bundle to get some FF's and SC's - $900...WTF?

whats the point of advertising a sale and then jacking up the bundle prices...

That's generally been the case with the JQi Business (nee Star)Class since the bundles were introduced.

It's one of the reasons I have not booked a [-]Star[/-]Business Class fare on them since.

You do have the option of not including the bundle.

The price of the bundle goes up when a sale is on.
Ie no discounted fares with sc's

quiet true, however...if JQ have a sale...at least make it genuine...i'll probably still book it, but will have to do 2 separate bookings as my wife is not a frequent traveller and I don't fancy wasting another $900.

smoke and mirrors to me it seems like.

There is a fair amount of duplicity by Jetstar with business class (allegedly) sales and the horrendous mark up if you want to add a bundle.

I am surprised they Orange Cancer do don't offer cheap bundles to finally kill off QFi.

scenario..car company advertises sale price on 'model X' for $X ...do you then expect 'modelxx_' (same model but with added xtras) for same $X??? and then accuse the car dealer of 'daylight robbery' ... :?::confused: ...classic advertising..get the buyer in to look at product...and hope they walk out with a higher priced product!!...this scenario can be substituted with other companies as well...

Not too mention other full service airlines. Offer a low fare on sale without flexibility and have no FF points, add several hundred dollars to have flexibility and points. Usually it's economy this happens to though. And to be fair to Jetstar, even without the FF points and status credits a a $1200 return fare to Asia in Premium Economy equivalent product isn't too bad.

I think the legitimate gripe is that you can't purchase elements of the bundle separately. The bundle includes Refund-ability Lounge Access and FF pts/SCs, yet many people only want the FF pts and SCs because they don't need refund-ability and already have lounge access through status.

I think you hit the nail on the head here.

I told a co-worker of this deal today and she immediately rang her mum who she knew wanted to go HNL. Realistically, this is a really good deal, as long as you're not concerned with date changes and FF points. What is the lowest return Y fare on any Australian airline to any of the advertised destinations? It's a great deal comparatively if you consider that Red-E Deals/Saver Fares also do not have flexibility. I would therefore suggest that the majority of the travel community (including me a few years ago when my circumstances were different) would find this deal a great way for anyone to treat themselves to a more comfortable flight for a justifiable price.

If the Max Bundle wasn't so high ............ maybe?

Agree it's a gripe but why would Jetstar do that? For mine if only one part is attractive it makes a consumer pay for the lot to get the attractive part.

I think CX is the best example of premium price for flexibility: discount economy $1000 vs fully flexible refundable economy for $12,000. At least Qantas has the decency to not even advertise full Y fare!

i dont get the correlation..

here we have economy and *class both on sale...fair enough.leave it that..why drop the price of a *class seat and then turnaround and raise the price of a component of that seat equallying it back to the original price...frequent flyers should be looked after IMHO..hence why we try to accumilate points and sc's so we can TRAVEL MORE..that is our goal and that of the airlines.

is it legal for them to do this..of course..does it send the right message to the traveller (the ones that notice it or care about it)..definitely not.

Most airlines do this ALL the time, at least in economy. You just have to get your head around the fact the bundle is really just equivalent to a column to the right hand side of the QF booking engine (eg "Flexi Saver" column vs "Sale" column to the left). This is no different to NZ, SQ, CX, TG or for that matter QF (if wanting to accruing to AA program) having restrictive, non points earning fares (in economy usually) on sale, but keeping the non restrictive points earning fares at their original price.

Again, you do not have to purchase the max bundle. If you do there's "No Soup for you!!"

You want a more comfortable seat than QF Y at not much more in terms of $ to outlay the opportunity is there for you. If you want the SC's and FFP's that go with it then that is an entirely different ball game and you can pay for it.
