Hi.. I have a ticket to Vancouver from Melbourne on CX flight.. as it is the first time I will be doing a connecting service.. I am worried that I will miss the connecting flight to Vancouver due to delays in Melbourne.. Is 3hrs 15 enough for connection at HKG and is CX104 generally punctual out of the CX flights from Melbourne?? Thanks and please kindly help a nervous traveller.. Much appreciated in advance!! :)

Three hours should be more than enough. Flightstats says CX104 has a very admirably 4.8 out 5 on-time performance rating.

just wondering.. which of the 3 cx flights is most reliable?? CX178, CX134 or CX104??

An hour is ample time to connect at HKG let alone 3 +.

Minimum connecting time at Hong Kong is 50 mins for Cathay->Cathay flights. You can connect in even less than that... if your inbound is late there will be ground staff to whisk you through security and to your next flight. They can do that in as little as 30 minutes.

I would have no concerns booking the CX104. However, if the flight is late (due to delays exHKG on the way out to Australia), you'll be provided with assistance and rebooking anyway.

Why do you believe there will be delays in melbourne ?

Generally flights exAU are ok, but with the recent (dire) delays into and out of China due to ATC restrictions, CX is holding some flights for connecting pax - sometimes by 2-3 hours. This will have a knock-on for the return flight.

I would suspect however the CX105 forming the CX104 return would be fairly ok with its midnight departure exHKG.

do see a few delays on CX flights lately ex HKG and was concerned for the knock on effects like MEL_Traveller said..

CX have been one of the most punctual airlines I have flown. This would cover at least 350 flights so I was surprised at the comment. I haven't flown them in the last six months however so taking this China issue as quite recent and indeed temporary.

If you are delayed they will look after you well.
