Also appears valid for several Asian ports. HKT is $462 return from Sydney

Edit- disregard. That's USD. Still good value at 650ish

Even more interesting as it potentially allows you to use a transit visa if stopover allowed.

Damn not available over Shanghai F1 weekend (7-9 April)

Don't really see how this would allow for a transit visa since the departure and arrival out of China would be HKG?

It doesn't specify that as a blackout date, but it seems the weeks surrounding the F1 are nowhere near as cheap as quoted above?

It would be blacked out, yes. Both outbound and inbound have to be outside the blackout dates, otherwise you'll have to upfare ($1k+).

Seasonality:
PERMITTED 01NOV 16 THROUGH 09DEC 16 OR 06FEB 17 THROUGH
31AUG 17 ON THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL SECTOR.

Blackouts:
TRAVEL IS NOT PERMITTED 10DEC 16 THROUGH 05FEB 17 OR
07APR 17 THROUGH 24APR 17.

Correct. Transit without visa would not be possible on any of these fares. Travel to/from China is always via HKG (ineligible).

This special appears to be valid for CNX as well departing mid February and returning mid March. It prices ~AUD664 for each adult earning 2,794 Asia miles each and ~AUD150 for infant. Total ~AUD1,470 which is a pretty good deal.

Looking at Qantas the best I can do to BKK is ~AUD1,660 earning 10,400 QFF points and 5,200 QFF points for Bronze and then another ~$350 to CNX.

But there appears to be a catch with the CX airfare. Unable to pre-book seats. There is a possibility that we will not be able to get bassinet for baby? Is an ~AUD600 saving worth the risk? Flight would be torture without bassinet for baby.

You need to call CX for bassinet seat assignments.
