Hi all, I need to get to ICN from PER for a meeting on Monday. QF credits are pretty important. I'm currently looking at CX and there are two options:

First leaves PER at 07.00 and arrives ICN 21.30 same day but only leaves 1hr 20 min connection inn HKG. As it's the same PNR i'm thinking the fairly short connection should be OK. Does anybody have any experinece of short connections here? Thoughts?

The second option leaves the previous evening from PER and would arrive at 19.00 on the Sunday with a much longer connection (more lounge time!). The issue here is that there are only PE seats available on the PER - HKG leg so costs increase considerably.

Any advice on the short connection appreciated.

1:20 is more than ample in HKG, in fact MCT is under an hour.

I recently made a 70 min connection to SFO when transiting from SYD on CX flights. No problems at all. Even had time for a brief visit to a lounge!

HKG is a very well organised airport. Flight delay is the only problem I can foresee for you. CX flights are frequently delayed!

Thanks for the responses.

I've just checked the flight history and although it does seem to be delayed slightly quite often, in the last 40 flights there have only been a couple of occasions where a delay may have proved difficult for the connection. Think I'll give it a go. Thanks again.

CX is very good at handling short and missed connections at HKG.

If you disembark your inbound anywhere as late as 30 minutes before the connection you will be met by ground staff and escorted to your next flight. I've even had instances with less than 30 minutes and still made it.

Have experienced similar. This is definitely not like LAX!

I was in HKG last week and my flight to SH was for 4 hours, but luckily HK airport has great shopping.

Funny you say that... I flew in to LAX on AA....dreadfully late like all flights that day (the runway work) ...met at the gate...escorted to the QF flight with a few others...got onboard...doors closed...departed.
Was actually too efficient...I would have been quite happy to be rebooked....lol

What about if your CX flights are on different PNR's?

Am looking to redeem some QF points out of HKG and was going to buy some AS miles to get to HKG - what minimum connection time would people recommend when having to collect baggage and check-in again at HKG?

2 hours should be fine. But you may do it in a lot less.

Thanks, I did read that previously however didn't know whether that would apply since'd be issued the flights through QF & AS respectively.

Well, we will have access to J lounges, so a bit of extra time in between isn't bad - and I've never been in but heard the Pier @ HKG is a pretty good lounge.

CX to CX bags will be checked through. This would give you a minimum connecting time of 50 minutes.

CX provides protection for connecting flights, even on separate tickets, for events that are [effectively] within their control. This would cover mechanical, crew etc. Events outside their control - weather or ATC for example - seems a bit of a grey area.

Awesome!! Thanks for the info, that is great that the bags get checked through!
