Customs in Indonesia

Good morning all, am about to carry the bags for my wife who is attending a Nursing Conference in Bogor, just outside Jakarta. It seems anything goes as far as dress in Bali is concerned, however expect things might be different in Bogor. Is it OK wearing shorts and casual tops, or are long trousers the go? We will be there for 5 days over Easter, which we obviously expect will be a non event there, but would like to be aware of what local customs we would need to be aware of.

Franky - Bogor is virtually an outer suburb of Jakarta these days. Dressing conservatively is always preferred but no one will launch a jihad if you were shorts. It's a modern megalopolis where anything and everything goes. Have fun.

As for Easter, folk will be as aware of it as we are of eid ul fitri. Apart from bunnies in the major malls, most won't know its on.

So true, in my time in the Navy I visited Surabaya, Medan, Belawan, Balikpapan, Sandakan (not Indonesian) during the 60s and 70s, so this is my first visit to Jakarta. Interesting to see the difference. In those days, I may not have been looking for the cultural sights that I do now!
