I'm going to have some flights on DL in late February and early March and will drop down from Velocity Gold to Silver before then. I'm going to do the status match for Alitalia so I can have the benefits for the DL flights.

I'm planning to enter the Alitalia number into the booking to get the better seat selection, Sky priority etc., and wanted to know if anyone has placed one program at the time of booking then changed it to another after check in? I want to credit the points to Velocity but I'm not sure if DL will let you change the FFP after check in or if the airport agents will be helpful enough to change it?

Up until check-in you can change the frequent flyer program / number. I'm unsure what it may do with seat selections, chances are they would remain.

Once you have checked-in you cannot modify frequent flyer numbers. However, if an agent changed it you will lose all the boarding priorities etc. if you got lounge access based on FF program status wouldn't see any agent letting you change such details on your way out as you've used a perk.

What at you are trying to do is "double dip" and these programs are all about loyalty and you are simply showing dis-loyalty and wanting to take the best of both at both airlines expense.

I'd just leave the VA one in the booking and then use your Alitalia card for access to the lounges etc. Also show it when you check in and see if they can give you a better seat. I did a similar thing at Tokyo airport when flying SQ. No SQ lounge so VA Plat left with no lounge access. Used star gold for access to ANA lounge. Good luck

+1 In the past I've put the VA number on the booking then just shown the alternative FFP card with status at check-in / lounge / gate. (This was with EY, using the Alitalia match)

That doesn't solve your seat selection issue though. I guess you could try put the Alitalia number in, select a seat, then change it back. I doubt it will move your seat selection.

SQ check in agents at SYD and LHR have been able to change the FFP from A3 *G to Velocity after check in for me previously. I will try on one sector with DL and report back with my results.
