Was looking for 2 seats using FF points Cairns to Hong Kong next April, as CPX is only direct flight on this route, CPX doesn't show FF site anymore, called QFF said yes we have seats available on CPX can book and it cost 2,500 points each, this is daylight robbery.

Also their older planes, so what are the best bus. class seats to get?.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It is ~2 years since CX flights have appeared on the QF award booking engine. The only way to find availabilty is to call QF. I have been told by QFF the reason the CX flights do not appear on the QF webite is that CX does not release this information to QF anymore.

I know spending 2,500 QFF points per person on assisted award bookings, especially when the ability to book by yourself is removed or not available, is a little steep but perhaps you can ask to have this fee waived as you cannot book these flights online.

I have manged to get the fee waived a few times this year for CX on QF issues. But i am WP so could be a difference.
As for CX being the older product, it usually is but how can you compare then the new CX F product with say the old QF F, i know whats better... all swings and round-abouts.
That been said for those long flights a skybed is much nicer of course.

If CX earned status bonus then i would thrilled because i fly them often and love there service and what they have to offer. I prefer QF but not by much. Some people hate the CX Asian service, just depends what you like.

It's not just the status bonus that is an issue. Discount economy on CX only earns 0.5 QFF points per mile.

The CX service is OK very much on par with most full service carriers I have used.

So how do the QF phone agents look it up then?

I was thinking it may be a "public" issue - whereby bots can use qantas.com to search CX availability & CX not liking that.

However, ISTR that BA.comn has no issue with CX award bookings ... so that's moot.

Good question. I did not think to ask them but if I had to guess I would say QF agents have access to CX availability via some direct link to CX.

They do indeed, well the airport staff do.

I was going to comment that CX do seem rather strange in there operation sometimes, like the fact my travel agent can see class availability but they have to contact CX for special corporate prices (email ?) and cant just get the price directly from there systems.

Seems rather odd to me but i just did SIN-HKG-DLC on CX/KA and i can tell you its a miles better option than SIN-PVG-DLC on SQ and either MH or CZ and cheaper on our special rate as well.

I live in Cairns so its just convenient to fly direct to HK and back, older planes but its only about 7 hours each way.

Good tip, I'll ask them about not charging the 2500 points each seeing I can't book on line.

I can't see that CPX don't give QFF the info when they can quote my flight in April, so course they (QFF) do have it.

Any BC seats better than others on these planes?.

Being able to see the information and displaying it are two different matters. Perhaps CX allows QF to view CX availability but not to display it on the QF website. I cannot think of another explanation why CX availability has not been appearing on the QF website for ~2 years....
