Hi Everyone,

I booked tickets from Melbourne to Beijing in December last year, and my travel agent told me to use checkmytrip.com to get my itinerary.

The departure time shown on checkmytrip.com was wrong, and we missed our flights.

I'm thinking of travelling overseas again soon and was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience with Checkmytrip?

That's a surprise. I once worked out a change in times via CMT before I was informed by the airline. I'm assuming you had refreshed the data when checking.

Very unlikely that its wrong as its just reading GDS schedules and updates, frankly I would not be using that travel agent again. A check the night before of the departure time at the airport never hurts, schedules change, even at the last minute.

I don't think CMT is the issue, more the travel agent you used.

Flight times do change, they should have informed you way before you missed the flight.

I've never had a problem with the relevant GDS website - CheckMyTrip (Amadeus - QF, AY, SQ, SK ....), VirtuallyThere (Sabre - Jetset and DJ soon), ViewTrip (Galileo - FlightCentre). PNRs are different between GDS too. My Dec reservation made through Sabre has a different SQ PNR, which changed again when they migrated to Amadeus.

I pump all the details of my big trips into TripIt.com for ease of finding stuff and sharing with family, but be warned - it doesn't update automatically unless you pay for the premium at $49.95, and I haven't been bothered to test that fact the paid app in a real world scenario yet.

I was really surprised as well.
The travel agent told me to continually check CMT.
I checked the CMT website a number of times before my flight left, and it said the same departure time - which turned out to be wrong.

Seems a bit strange. I would expect the TA to prepare an itinerary for you. The TA should be notified of changes and contact you, rather than have you check. Seems like TA was not doing their job. How much difference was there between the actual departure time and what check my trip said?

did you do online check my trip or via the mobile where you imported the trip to the App?

The Premium TripIt (Pro) is worth every cent. It's saved my bacon more than just a few times! Very good and very helpful if travelling in the USA with short connections (You get an SMS/email on landing with what gate your connection is at, if it's delayed, and time to make the connection, along with options for alternates should you mis-connect). For anyone travelling regularly, it's a very worthwhile investment (along with EF of course).

Not bad for USD49.95pa with the first month free!

There was a 12 hour difference

I checked it on my desktop computer

Very strange because CMT directly takes the information from the PNR when you do an online search (different from the APP where the info is stored on the device and has to be refreshed)

The flights were with Air China in December last year

So the flight left at 1105am and you arrived for an 1105pm departure at the airport?

That sounds right to me. The OP probably didn't realise that the PM would have been 2305 :(

There was a direct flight that did leave late at night two nights a week.
