Does anybody know the current taxi fares to travel from Dubai and Abu Dabi please.

As of our last visit (Sept 2009) one way in a metered taxi from downtown Abu Dhabi to DXB (airport) was roughly $85 incl tip (aussie), paid in Dirhams though of course.

A Google search states the distance is 166km and taxis cost from Dh 1.80 upwards. Most forums state the cost is around Dh 250. If correct, this works out at ~$63AUD today

True. I posted for reference. Not sure how many regulars here have current experience (hence serfty's recommendation).

If you are able to book one (rather than hail one), you can often negaotiate the price too.

My understanding also is that if you are staying at a hotel in DXB, but flying into AUH, often you can book transfer via Etihad or the hotel. At one stage, Etihad were offering free transfers as part of the ticket price. By bus for Y, by limo for J/F pax.

Not really helpful I know....

but .. I would consider either hiring a car as it is quite possibly cheaper than a taxi. I did it last November (long story but I had to store baggage somewher ), was about $65AU all up for 1 day but that was return - no idea on one way drop off. It's an easy drive. SCRATCH THAT, JUST CHECKED AND APPEARS NO ONE WAY.

Other option would be to organise a private car. Taxi's over there are pretty .... average. I wouldn't want to sit in the back of a hailed taxi for the trip.

Many thanks for your reponses however we have found a day trip and they have agreed to pick us up in Abu Dhabi and return us to Dubai. WE will make arrangements for the trip to Abu Dhabi and all your answers have been very helpful
