Hi,

Probably a dumb question but worth an ask! I see there are ways to convert nearly all the American program points between each others programs - either directly or through hotel programs etc.

Is there any way at all to convert QFF points to AAdvantage miles? I know it would probably be the holy grail so probably doesn't exist.

I know it wouldn't be 1:1 but Qantas should do a deal with AA to make it happen - after all AA lets you buy miles so Qantas point of view no different to letting you redeem for gift cards etc.

Thanks,
Dale.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Once a QFF point, always a QFF point until directly redeemed for an award flight booking, an upgrade to a Qantas flight segment or a purchase from the QFF store.

Well you can but its at a very, very, very poor conversion rate and is limited by the AA max purchase rules.

Redeem gift cards for QFF points, spend them on pre purchased credit cards, buy AA miles.

As I said its a piss poor conversion rate, but it's do able. ;)

Up to February 28 you can buy 60k AA miles and get a bonus 30k miles.

Which gift cards and pre paid credit cards are you referring to?

For the OP, I was going to suggest the risky option of booking an ASA in a revenue award bucket and crediting to AA. However I am not aware of any clauses in the T&C about whether you can or cannot earn on non-QF FF programs with ASAs so don't be disappointed if you try this and don't earn anything.

I don't think ASA's book into AA points and SC earning fares.

The only ways of converting miles I'm aware of are:

1. Through points.com, which all involve a significant loss in the number of points, and in most cases a hefty fee.
2. Through the mechanisms here - InsideFlyer.com: Mileage Converter

Other than Starwood Preferred Guest conversions to airline miles, mileage transfers usually involve a significant loss in value.

Dale.

there is a quite amazing analysis of a lot of this somewhere in the Diners threads

They can book into almost any fare bucket, including these ones, ie at "non classic award prices".

Whether the tickets in those buckets earn on AA is another matter because there is no stated rules about whether they do or not. Or on any other OW FF program for that matter.
No one knows, that was my point. It would take someone with a big points balance who had nothing to lose to really find out.

I currently have three FASA's and four JASA's booked. The FASA's show as P and the JASA's show as U. Last year my two FASA's booked into P and 6 JASA's booked into U. I have not booked any YASA's or WASA's (Are we calling them WASA's?)

You sir, are smart! Obviously all the FASAs and JASAs you have booked were in classic award buckets (and at classic award prices I would presume).

The ones I'm talking about are, for example, MEL-LHR in F. Instead of 241k points all inclusive in P class, you can have the same thing for ~1 or ~1.5 million points all inclusive in A class. The 1 million+ point ASA that may or may not credit to AA is the risky option I'm mentioning. Even if for some reason you did earn on AA, it would be significantly less than the 1 million outlay you have to start with.

With Y or Y+ there are more buckets which change the earn (whether you want EQMs, EQPs, status, etc is another story) - assuming they earn in the first place.
I did a rough calculation on this not too long ago, I'll see if I can dig it up.

To the OP, the short answer is there is no economical way to "convert" QFF points to AA. You would be better off just directly crediting flights to AA, or if you earn QFF points by means other than flying, you're better off using them for something that QFF points can offer you directly (WW Gift cards :p).

yep you are quite right. I didn't even think about JASA's and FASA's booked anything other than Classic rates. It would be interesting to see where they do book into. Who is game on AFF? (rhetorical question!!!!!!)

My QFF points seem so useless. I'll look forward to opportune time to redeem them.
