Hi. I am about to fly with Singapore Airlines on a ticket that has 3 passengers. ( non refundable ticket) One passenger may be a no show at the last minute. The TA advises me that if I don't let her know before we get to the airport that it will compromise our flight back ( for the 2 that are going). Is this correct- or does a no show of one passenger just mean we may have a spare seat near us.

Great thanks. I'll call them now. Appreciate the prompt responses

Hi there Bitten,
further to the above advice re ticket splitting, I will make comment on the "spare seat" issue.
If your travel companion had selected a seat/online checkin then it is almost guaranteed the seat will be vacant, but only for the first leg.

After that, with the "no-show" their ticket evaporates and so the seat becomes available to all and sundry again on all subsequent legs.

My experience was the opposite to this. About 2.5 years ago, the Gentleman, Master C and I were all travelling from MEL-DPS on a return ticket with an overnight layover in SIN flying SQ J. As we left the airport in SIN, the Gentleman's passport was stamped on his last remaining clear page. On arrival back at the airport the next day, SQ would not issue him a boarding pass as they said he needed a free page for his Indonesian visa (which BTW he didn't actuallly need one). MasterC and I decided the fly to DPS on the booking and the Gentleman stayed in SIN. The Gentleman made his way to DPS on a later flight. His ticket was still available on the way back. Not sure if that was because the booking was for the 3 of us so it didn't disappear as MasterC and I took the first flight. YMMV

Was the Gentleman’s flight on the same carrier or different carrier? If different carrier it might be that the booking was split anyway and rearranged to allow for the return flight to remain.

Same carrier. We just booked him on a later one way flight from SIN with SQ with hand luggage so he could check in online and avoid the counter and their issue with his passport.

He got on his return leg on original ticket with no issue.

In this case they were NOT a no show, they showed up at the airport and there was an issue .. the airline handles these situations differently
