Hi,

Mrs mzy and gf will be flying SYD-LAX-JFK in a week or so and then returning a couple of weeks later JFK-SFO-SYD. At LAX, she will fly into TB on QF11 and then out on QF3233 from T4. At SFO, she flies into T3 (QF3078) and out of T8 (QF74). I was wondering whether anyone can give a heads up on the connection protocol at each terminal. I know at LAX she will need to collect bags and clear customs at TB but what is the process to recheck luggage and get to T4.

thanks, mzy

T4 is literally 1-2 minute walk from TBIT.

It's no problem taking bags to T4, she'll just need to take them with her and check them in at the AA counters at T4.

If you check your bags through to JFK from SYD you should only need to pick them up to clear customs then drop them off again almost straight away. Still within TBIT. Then as Travel Guru says simply exit TBIT, turn right, walk the 2 minutes to T4 go through security and that is all.

On return you should be able to check bags through at JFK so no issues there. The only issue is the possibility of needing to get new boarding passes at SFO but this should not effect the baggage arrangements.

Indeed very simple. Just follow the signs as you exit customs at TBIT. They will direct you to turn right and walk up a slight incline. Bag drop for already tagged-through bags is at the top of the incline. Then exit TBIT (this is at ground level), turn right and walk to T4. Then up the escalator (or take the stairs or lift) up to the check-in level, then up another escalator to security screening and departures level. Very quick and simple, noting that any security checkpoint in the USA can be slow.
