Have just received an email from Jetstar with Boxing Day Specials. One of the fares that attracted my eye was Star Class MEL-BKK, 4 May-22 June 2011. (Bingo, I thought, as I'm planning to travel to Bangkok in May 2011.)

Now, the price quoted in the email says that it will cost me $599 one way. When you go to Jetstar.com Boxing Boxing Day sale website there is a MEL-BKK star class special (different dates,) for $799. Then you go to the booking page, enter your travel dates, (mid May 2011) and it quotes $1059 for the same fare :confused::evil:

I can't find anythink in the booking engine, but the sale page quotes $599 as per the email. There are two sales listed on the page, the other being the Wish Upon a Star sale which lists MEL-BKK as $799.

Thanks Oz-mark. I now see the 2 different star class specials. However, the booking engine is still asking $1059 one way. I've tried various dates in May 2011 and neither the $599 nor $799 is available, as the email was offering.:confused:

Did you click on the fare on the sale page. I think jetstar will only give the sale fare from the specials page

the star class discounted seats may be sold out on the days u r looking?

Just went back to jetstar.com a made a few dumb bookings, on different days in May and June 2011. In most cases almost all star class seats are still available. For example, on May 19 2011 out of 38 star class seats only 6 are unavailable, (1A, 1B 6A, 6B, 6J, 6K) and 32 star class seats are not booked yet.

I find it quite ridiculous to believe that 15 minutes after receiving the email from jetstar.com the cheap fares are sold out, while at the end of the day most seats are still available, but for a much higher fare.

Looked also on virtually every date in the sale period. The $599 StarClass fares MEL-BKK vv do not exist.

This is seems common with Jetstar. The booking engine seems to be 'delayed' sometimes for a sale fare offering. Maybe tomorrow? Maybe next business day?

Jetstar should get a fine for this!

I got the email over 48 hours ago ... and then another reminder this morning, many hours after the sale had started. Did you miss the first one?

So did you get a sale fare? Has anybody?

I've tried virtually everyday the sale is on and clicking on the link from the email. When I click on the email link I can't get anything to load up.

Will try again late tonight, am hoping to get one of these *Class sale fares.

The other option, to save the trouble of searching every date, would be to call the call centre and have them find the special for you? (don't know if that would work).

Once they find it then book it yourself on line.

Bad form though if they aren't offering it.

Just an addition to the above... the starclass 'sale' fares are listed as being available 'from 4 May 2011'. According to the booking page the flight on 4 may is offered via Singapore only - using a combination of JQ + JQ Asia. These connecting fares NEVER seem to be as low as the non-stop flight. Leaving me to think the fare is not available at all via SIN (and never would be) on 4 May.

This raises some serious advertising issues.

More than happy to be proven wrong.

I've too been searching for StarClass fares on the current sale ex SYD. Have searched all ports (was hoping for HKT or HNL, but its a status run so I didn't care too much) on all the dates and nothing seems to be loaded.

Either they offered a small handful of seats, or they never existed to begin with.

Has anybody phoned the call centre to check availability and/or complain?

Clearly the Boxing Day sale $599 Starclass fares for MEL-BKK have not been loaded into the booking engine as can be seen easily using the jetstarsearch.com website (prices are ex tax);

JetstarSearch.com - Find cheap Jetstar flight easier

However the currently extended 'Wish Upon a Star' sale DOES have the $799 Starclass fares for MEL-BKK loaded as can be seen again using the jetstarsearch.com site (pricing is ex tax);

Note. The Boxing Day sale has expired at time of posting but from everyone's observations this still needs to be bought to the attention of the JQ contact centre 131 538 as it looks this particular fare was never made available.

It would seem so. I went through every single day in the advertised availibility period and could not find a single fare at the adverised price.

Not the sale expired but the advertisement expired, because there was no sale on Boxing Day. As mentioned above, on Boxing Day, 15 minutes after receiving the email from jetstar.com, (midday,) I virtually checked every day in May and June 2011 and found no $599 to BKK, as advertised in the email.

Yes, it is my belief that no sale fares (*Class to BKK) were made available.

Has anyone contacted Simon Westaway via AFF to see if he was aware of the situation regarding the JQ Boxing day sale?
