Hi guys,

Im flying to China in June, with a 12 hour stop over in Hong Kong (yay =/)
Im currently a silver FF, my dad is a Gold Qantas FF.

My question is, is it possible for airlines to hand out complimentary lounge passes?...as in if he called or emailed because of his status they could possibly give him a one of pass..which I could use to get into the lounges? (because Cathay lounges rule in HK).

If no...how would I go about getting one? Im not all that keen on floating around the terminal for 12 hours, is there other strategies to get into the business lounges? I know its a tad cheeky but im sure there are ways to beat the system so to speak =P.

Any advice appreciated!

Joe.

If I were 12 hours in HK I would stay in the airport hotel and get some sleep if the stopover is at night. If as it would appear you are there during the day, go into HK.
Even with lounge access I wouldn't want to sit there for 12 hours

Airport hotel does make sense tbh. Im there overnight I'm just not really very familiar with the airport etc and dont know where anything is!

Welcome to AFF Joe Gilmore!

There are complimentary Qantas lounge passes that are given to Silver members on qualifying-requalifying, Qantas Premium Amex cards etc.

Unfortunately I do not think Qantas will send you out a complimentary Qantas lounge pass if your dad calls and asks nicely.

If you want to visit the Qantas lounge then you will either need someone to guest you, have a complimentary Qantas Lounge pass by buying on eBay or someone giving you one.

Welcome to AFF.

If you post up your travel details in the meetups section, another AFFer may be able to guest you in.

Otherwise I dont know any instances where guest passes are sent out.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly

I am sure there is an on line option which will let you know your options

Welcome aboard BTW

I would be looking at the hotel option myself, however there are also some lounges in HK airport that you can pay to enter. You can find them on the airport website as well.

Note that even if you had a Qantas Club lounge Invitation, you would not be able to use it at HKG when the next departure is on a CX flight. The next departure must be on a QF or JQ flight to be able to use the Qantas Club Invitations. So no point in "buying' one from eBay etc as you won't be able to use it on the way to China, bit could use it on the way back if the flight departing HKG is a QF flight. If its a CX flight, then it won't help you get into a lounge.

As a QF Gold FF status flyer, he can take one guest into an of the OneWorld lounges at HKG so long as the departure flight is operated and marketed by OneWorld. Or are you not traveling with your father?

Yes, I know this already. If you read my initial post I said nothing about Qantas or Qantas lounges.
Its a shame as there is about 10 lounge passes on ebay right now, but I cant use them as I am flying with CX as you so 'nicely' pointed out.

Im also aware oneworld flyers can take a comp in, which is why I asked the question I did in my initial post. No my dad isnt flying unfortunately, if he was, I wouldn't have needed to post this thread.

Actually you made pointed referenced to QF.And club membership. More importantly you implied rather than stated you were flying CX. .... But hey , we are all human. Hope you have a great time. GPH.

Don't forget that there are also the two "Travellers Lounges" located within T1 airside in HKG, and both are open 24/7... if you happen to have a Priority Pass card, you can use that for complimentary access (depending on which membership type you have)... if not, you may be able to pay for access (and it doesn't matter which carrier you are flying, all you need is an onward boarding pass). You may also be able to access the lounge for free if you have a platinum/Centurion Amex card (they had a huge list at the entrance to the lounge), or perhaps even a Diners Club card (would have to check that one though)! ... If I can find their number, I can give them a call for you if you'd like and see what their rates are for casual use (I get free international calls included on my phone plan). Last time I was there (the 'east hall' lounge), there were many hot buffet dishes available (including chicken and seafood), rice, chips, snacks, free soft drinks/juice etc, and power points were *very* plentiful (there seemed to be one for each seat in the area that we were sitting in)... the chairs were *very* comfortable, and there's a bartender available (though alcohol is charged in addition to entrance (for Priority Pass anyway). From the signage, it's the same lounge that Air France use for their F/J pax ;) ... my only gripe was that there was no wi-fi coverage in certain parts of the lounge, but you can always move around to find a better signal. I had my 3HKG SIM in a PocketWifi device though, so I couldn't be bothered to move :)

If I had 12 hours in HKG I would go into the city whatever time it was. It's only about 20 minutes on the airport train.

definitely go to the city and look around, buy some stuff, practice bargaining, eat good food :)

Haha I do have to agree with everyone else here despite the lounge tips - HKG is a great city, so try to enjoy it while you're there! Just keep the lounge in mind as a backup in case you really can't bear spending much time in HKG - though I doubt that'd be the case! :p

Joe, welcome to AFF it is a wealth of information and the more you put in the more you will get back.

You didn't specifically state about the Qantas Lounges, but you did state yours and your fathers QF status in the second line of your post, and have posted this question in the Qantas thread. So it would be a reasonable assumption you were looking to get in to the Qantas or Oneworld (including Cathay) lounges through using Qantas status or Qantas lounge invitations.

You don't even state which airline you are flying on in your original post, so again being the Qantas thread it could be reasonably assumed that you may have been on a QF number.

If you were only concerned with Cathay Pacific or other lounges why post in the Qantas thread and not in one of the other threads?
