I generally don't need food or their so called snacks. But I found it incredibly frustrating that they won't allow me to have a cup of juice and a cup of water. I'm not sure if they have a policy but I have been told I can only have one on occasions. (Generally when I am really thirsty). And yes, I always ask politely.

Must be just you, my friend :)

I've had no problems requesting, say, a cup of tea and a cup of water. I don't ask for juice, though; I thought that was not free of charge (except for international and coast-to-coast flights).

Juice is included in the fare, unlike soft drinks.

Actually not just Andy.

I asked for a water and a tea 2 weeks ago and was told (politely) that I could only have one drink as well.

Some inconsistency clearly around! Or a new.... enhancement ;)

How many time have we had discussions on the VA food policy. It's an absolute dogs breakfast and here we are, FFers and we still debate what we're entitled to??? One really has to assume that it's deliberate. FWIW, I was under the impression the offering was tea, coffee or water (and the water is the size of a thimble and usually only half full), but I wouldn't put money on being right.

No juice has always been included... this quote from when they switched to offering 'meals' on all flights:

"We continue to offer complimentary tea, coffee, juice and water on all flights, complimentary wine, beer and soft drink served in ‘Happy Hour’ between 5 and 7pm Monday to Friday as well as alternative food and beverage options through the popular on-board Retail Menu."

Next time I'm in whY on VA and they only serve half a cup of water, I'm going to ask for the other half (perhaps I'll even say "and this half can be juice").

I actually asked an FA if they could fill up my water further and they said that they fill it up around 2/3rds to prevent spills. Although in my experience, I've never had a problem requesting a second complimentary beverage.

Never had any issues requesting a water as well as coffee during the drinks service, nor have I had a problem getting a second drink later in the flight.

And yet sometimes (rarely, admittedly) you get a full cup of tea which is way more hazardous.

Re: Virgin Lounge Food

Had coffee and a water on CBR-MEL this morning.

Regularly on BNE-CNS/TSV they'll come thru after the main service offering more water.

Re: Virgin Lounge Food

Always get a cup of tea and a water at the same time without any issue.

I also stash a sparkling water from the lounge in my bag - open it in lounge but only manage a bit of it before boarding so don't want to waste it.

While I've many gripes and complaints with VA's 'food' offerings, I've always been served a drink of my choice and water on request. And, providing I take a walk to the back of the bus, a second and third beer/wine is ok, and they'll refuse to take payment if offered...

Also agree with previous comment - often seen them come back round with water, and they've filled my water bottle on request too.

Maybe an occasional sloppy crew letting the side down...

Words fail me ......
Whoever is in charge of these things at VA needs retrenchment.
The fact that this is even being discussed on a public Internet forum is a total embarrassment for them.

I've never had an issue getting water in addition to juice or tea.

Nor have I, and the trolley seems to be the first thing they prepare after the Captain releases the FA's from their seat.

Re: Virgin Lounge Food

I find it hard to believe there is a policy to restrict tea, coffee, juice & water consumption. Probably comes down to lazy FAs.

I recall a few years ago on a ANZ plane and the young lady next to us, as she was unpacking her homemade sandwich, asked for a juice and she was told by the FA (after checking her manifest) that she can only have coffee, tea or water due to the ticket she purchased.

My husband looked at me in fear and said, "What ticket did you buy me!" (The Works, he got a meal and IFE so he was happy).

Think that was our last Y flight as well.

Hubby also requested a glass of apple juice and then gave it to the lady next to us, saying we're not that 3rd world country yet.
