Hi All

I recently flew AUH-MUC operated by Etihad but booked as a Lufthansa codeshare and as such my ticket was issued as LH9661. Afterwards, I attempted to make a retro miles claim with Etihad who rejected it citing that the flight was a 'Lufthansa marketed flight' and in order to be eligible for miles, the flight 'should be marketed by Etihad'. I subsequently put in a claim with Lufthansa Miles & More for the points who also rejected it stating that miles are 'awarded under the flight number of the operating carrier'. They went on to say 'If a partner does not offer miles for a particular route or if the airline that flies you to your destination does not participate in Miles & More, the claim for mileage credit is rejected – regardless of the flight number that is printed on the ticket.'

I was just wondering if there is a way around this or if they can confirm the airlines involved have made the correct decision. It seems like a bit of a sting with both airlines generating revenue from the ticket but neither wanting to take responsibility for crediting miles.

Thanks!

My understanding is that both airlines are correct unfortunately for you.
Yeah it sucks big time and I have been caught out similarly in the past.
Always pays to check out these things before booking

Some airlines award miles based on operating carrier (LH does this generally). Some based on marketing carrier (EY in this case). Some it depends on marketing & operating carrier. Where this coincides you are so out of luck!
