I'm looking at a trip to Tunisia at the end of the year.

Air France has convenient flights and I can get a J return fare for around $5K.

If I look at booking the exact same flights as a QF codeshare, the price becomes $5K each way.

Can anyone give me a reason why this is not a blatant rip off by QF. I have been loyal enough to QF to be gold for the last 10 years but this codeshare pricing is stretching the friendship to breaking point. It is not a route where QF is in direct competition so I do not understand why it has to be so expensive to get a QF codeshare.

almost all super specials prohibit codeshare on long haul flights - airlines lose money as they have to pay the other airline.

also, airfare pricing often has little logic to it

Are you able to fly with Royal Jordanian?

My guess is because it would then take business away from AUS-SIN-LHR. If J was cheap AUS-SIN-CDG-LHR. I would save the $$$$ and take the extra stop. Wouldn't you?

Transitting through LHR is usually a total nightmare in my experience. Avoiding an unnecessary stop at LHR is the main reason I am looking at other routes apart from QF routes in the first place.

Will have a look at what Royal Jordanian have got.

QF charges that which it thinks it can get away with. They feel that they can get away with it and that many people will buy from them anyway

In my experience, codeshares are almost always a raw deal compared to booking with the metal. Don't expect much love with "packages", including r/t flights.
