Just received an invite in the inbox to a coughtail party for FF in Canberra on 9 April from Lesley Grant. Now I should be interested and excited about this, but there is just one little problem. The problem is the #@$% thing is addressed to Mr FM not me. (Being the control freak I am, all the families FF e-mails come to me, apart from Dr FM who has left Canberra). I keep checking my inbox, but nothing as yet. Now this has me wondering

1. Are the invites random
2. has mine been lost
3. Or is Qantas sexist and Mr FM is obviously the main breadwinner (not - never has been) and I am the useless appendage that goes along for the ride.

OK no doubt I am over reacting, but at the moment seriously pissed and offended and needed to vent.....

These have been going around as a circuit event for some weeks, with consensus being the invites are going to the highest points earners, that is points from any source.

Hmm OK that might calm me down a bit, but also a bit ironic. A few years ago, I had a CC with a 20k limit and MR FM was an additional card holder on mine. 20K really wasn't a high enough limit when travelling, so I asked my bank for an increase to 50K and submitted the paperwork via the business centre. I received a lousy 6,000 extra and phoned my relationship manager in a huff. He said he had no idea sometimes what the CC people did, but suggested that he could authorise up to 26K and that we just get a second card in Mr FM's name. So I did that filling in exactly the same financial data with his name and signature. It duly came back with a $50k limit. :). I was tempted to throw a wobbly and my bank manager had a bit of a laugh, but in the end we just went with the flow. As a consequence though I stopped using my CC and I always use his for purchases and even that lovely new tip I learnt on here about paying tax via a CC. So because ANZ were sexist and gave Mr FM double the credit limit on exactly the same data -I've missed out on an invite. As Mr FM just said, he probably wouldn't even fly Qantas if he was making the decisions....

I don't think you can go along for the ride in this case :p The RSVPs are only for one person.

I think the people are randomly selected. I'm a QF WP but in Canberra - so are god-knows-how-many-others - so I assume I was randomly chosen. My partner is also a QF WP with similar points earn and was given no invitation. It seems to be like a double status credit deal - no rhyme or reason.

Looking forward to meeting your other half at the event if he's going!

Maybe it is something to do with the settings in your profile too? Jacques Vert put me on to this in my partners profile and within a few weeks of changing it, his first ever dsc offer came.

I got an invite for 9th April, but with under 2 weeks notice i cannot change work commitments (interstate that day). Grrrrrr. More lead time required.

Thanks QF.

Nope he has zero interest - I am wondering if I can sneak in with a suit and false beard :)

Mr Fifa got an invite and I didn't :(.
And to think he wouldn't be WP if it wasn't for me!

I've had a look again, but can't see any difference. I think in this case it is the points - I had a look at our accounts and although I have flown more and have 1000 status credits more than him, in the last year I have around 100,000 points to his 400,000 - the difference of course is what I am spending on his CC. I suppose it is as good as any other way for Qantas to select, just in this case it isn't getting them what they want (I.e the loyal QF person).

Got my invite today and as luck has am in CBR that night. Looking forward to meeting up with a few others.

I didn't get an invite either :(, maybe 'cos I've used nearly all my points. Either that or I am just totally unlucky. Come to think of it that's probably the reason. I never win anything, in fact can be considered the "kiss of death" when it comes to any freebie or competition.

In BNE there were a series of mail outs over a week or so. Yours may yet arrive :). Also, a phone call to the QF RSVP # yielded the info that I could indeed take a partner.

That's interesting -I might try and bully Mr FM into phoning and asking if he can bring his WP wife!

I also got an invite but I'm concerned about the "Business attire" part, I don't own a suit, would dark pants, shirt and a tie acceptable I wonder?

Matching shoes and socks would probably be appreciated rather than thongs.

We are talking about Canberra here - hi-viz and thongs are not in our usual dress code (tongue firmly in cheek). Besides that it will probably be so cold that socks are a necessity. If I was going I'm sure I could dust off the tiara!

Mr FM doesn't have a suit either..... Well he does, but as he semi retired 30 years ago and gave up on suits, I am quite he could not cram his ageing physique into it. I of course have lots of nice clothes, but then I am not invited.......(retreats muttering bitterly into her corner to sulk).

Cold on April 9! How will you cope in winter? :) (I have just left CBR having spent 11 winters there so I do know what I am talking about.)

Oh, my mistake - I did not even consider the date of the event. Of course it will still be balmy - it is not Anzac Day yet. Maybe shorts and singlets would be the go for men??????
