I have to make a booking for early next year, CMB to SIN

Sri Lanka Air and Emirates are about the same price, but I would like to earn some points and SC’s on this booking.

If I book with Sri Lanka Air and quote my QF number, am I correct that should earn QF points and 90sc’s.

What about Emirates? I can’t seem to bring them up on the QF site as a paid booking. Given their not oneworld if I book direct with Emirates direct I won’t be able to earn Qantas points or Sc’s.

I think you're stuck with UL if you want a non-stop flight and SCs. According to the QF calculator it will earn 80 SC in J.

You'd actually get more SC with MH (120). Look for Z fares, which do credit to QF. Downside is both segments on 737 - which are OK.

Happy wandering

I never forget the AFF ( and FT) motto - Why fly direct when you can connect for the same price... and get more qualifying (xx_)

That's assuming that the price is the same (or cheaper). The random dates I searched, MH was $140 more expensive (which is good value for an extra 40 SC). Also dependent on IF the OP has to be in SIN by a specific time or not.

We have flown CMB-SIN in J and earned 80SC.
Wait for one of the regular Sri Lankan sales - they often have 25-30% off.

Probably its not on the QF website, but it would on the EK website to fly CMB, and no SC earnt for the CMB - DXB sector, EK metal EK flight number (earning QFF points) but you would have no SC earn on the CMB - DXB sector, but earn QFF points and QF SC on the DXB - SIN (on the way to MEL) sector.
Good earn on CMB - DXB on UL in J... lots of QFF points and QF SC.
I do realise you are not going to MEL, but that DXB plane will then go on to MEL from SIN.
KUL - SIN with MH in J earns good SC, but poor QFF points.

The OP is not originating in DXB.

UL flight number = earn points and status credits
EK flight number = earn points only, no status credits

I didn't think of MH
How do I check if the flight is in Z class?

I think that you will find Z class will be called Business Promo. Seems available on round trip but not one way for the dates I checked in Jan 16.
OTOH the MH base one way in business seems less expensive than UL. YMMV

That's a problem when wandering

Not 100% correct, the same metal does not go on to MEL, but is timed well in both directions of EK404/405 DXB-SIN-MEL and then the return

Thanks to all for the replies.
I think we will wait for a UL sale and book that

The MH times don't really suit, either too early departure or too late arrival.

Shame we couldn't earn SC's on EK.
