I would like to book a circle Asia in Y. My required stops are PEK, HKG, SIN
I am happy to throw a TPE in there and if possible, I would like to do a land leg between Beijing and Xi'an so there would be a Xi'an/HKG or reverse in the CA fare...

My QF person was stumped due to HKG connections

Any suggestions?

Mr!

INot sure about mileage, but can you use KIX/NRT as a transfer point? And then pick up JL or CX. So something like MEL-SINx-NRT-TPEx-HKG-PEKx-(surface)-XIYx-HKGx-MEL.

This won't work. Problem is HKG is SE Asia (for purpose of this fare), and TPE/PEK/XIY/NRT are all NE Asia, and only one crossing between regions is permitted.

Could do MEL-SIN-HKG-TPE-NRT-PEK/PVG-SYD-MEL, purchasing PEK-XIY-PVG separately.

This highlights a weakness of oneworld in Asia. Star alliance is a lot easier. MEL-SIN-TPE-HKG-PEK-XIY-PVG-MEL at 13,810 miles could be achieved on the cheaper of the two star alliance Circle Asia products (which are 15K & 18K vs 13K/17K on oneworld). (HKG is in North Asia in star alliance), and indeed allows up to 16 sectors, so the star product would even let you return via AKL, if that was your inclination.

I suspected there would be something wrong with the logic of my answer :) I don't think there are any online validation tools for Circle tickets... or are they around?

*A definitely do have the better coverage in Asia at the moment. Having to bounce back and forth to the OW hubs in Asia really causes issues.

thanks for the replies so far, but my wanted choice is to fly as many legs QF to take advantage of as many FF points upgades as possible - there must be a way...

Mr!

but my wanted choice is to fly as many legs QF

There is no way you can fly any more than 2 QF international legs, MEL-SIN (or HKG) and then PVG (or NRT) to SYD. That's it. The rest will need to be on CX, KA or JL. 10 years ago, you could have added SIN-HKG on QF, but that was 10 years ago!

And no way you can get TPE & XIY into the mix together without purchasing separate fares as JL does not serve XIY on its own metal. The route I suggested is probably one of the few available. Ditch TPE and you could do MEL-SIN-HKG-XIY//PEK-NRT-SYD-MEL.

I recommend you use the oneworld plan a mutli city iteniary web site.

I alwyas use this as it gives you all flight options and rejects a destination which is not serviced by any one world airline.

Also one neat trick - the plan multi city allows a surface sector, which means you can use a LCCC to travel between 2 points with say a Star Alliance carrier or LCCC.

E.g Sometimes I will one world cirlce asia ticket to fly PER-SIN (SIN-HKT with Silk Air or Jetstar) HKT-HKG-NRT-PER

I think it just knows by your itinerary - but you can't book circle asia online on the OW planner.

I booked a OW Cirlce Asia fare this morning and was informed by QF telephone sales the abilty to book via the OW web site a OW Cirlce Asia fare are coming.

At the moment I pay the $60-00 booking fee to book my ticket through QF telephone sales.

And as others have mentioned the distance is just as important as the location of the stops.

My recent Circle Asia in J (SYD-SIN-HKG-PEK-NRT-SYD) had two QF flights but only one with first class. I came in just under the 13k mile limit which made it the version rather than the 17k mile one which was more expensive.

Also I believe extra flights are charged for so may have to be careful there. Still I got 500 SCs from the above itinerary.

When I booked on the telephone the booking agent didn't really know the rules and had to check a couple of times before ticketing it for me. The OneWorld forum on FT has had a couple of questions re this fare.

Of course ex-MEL this goes over the 13K limit!
