Coronavirus (COVID-19) Respiratory illness - Effect on Travel

Amazing some of these things originate out of China these days. India with a greater population and greater number living in extreme poverty doesn't seem to generate these bugs.

Maybe the Hindu way of life (eating) is a truckload better!

I wonder whether this will increase or decrease demand for hotels in other Asian cities over the next 6 months. Was going to use this week to book my hotels in Singapore and Taiwan for August but wondering whether I should hold off as prices may drop???

Indian people may also have a large percentage who are vegetarian. I wonder why? Hygeine issues may be at the core of that. And meat is always cooked. They don’t have a culture belief that exotic animals livers, kidneys tusks etc being a cure for illnesses. And not everything that moves is capable of being fit for human consumption. India has thousands upon thousands of crows. Never eaten.

I've no idea, but I always thought the Hindu religion was a big factor in their diet .... >80% of the Indian population are Hindu.

Whatever, it works for them. Hindu certainly occupies a large part of the Eastern and Southern coast. Religious practices often decide what is allowable or not, and those practices can sometimes be related back to hygiene before refrigeration and preservation and safe cooking practices were developed.

India may not have the viral illnesses that China does but it is one of the world leaders in antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Given the usage of antibiotics is not widespread in India then I would look at something in their genetics which contributes to the resistance. Just as many blood conditions we regard as issues, eg sickle cell anemia and malaria resistance in someone I knew who was adopted from Thailand. In Australia it was regarded as a chronic health condition by her Doctors, in Thailand it protected her from malaria.

I'll let that one pass to the doctor. But it would appear a little tough to single out India as the only country for the overuse of medicine. Just think of those massive farm factories around the world pumping antibiotics and such into those mass produced animals.

Antibiotic use is very high in India.
I personally know of several cases of antibiotic resistant bacteria picked up in India including a friend who picked his up in India having dental work there.

Terrible overuse of antibiotics, and many counterfeit medications as the impoverished can’t afford pharmac_ prices.

Whatever, >80% is a big factor IMO.

Apparently overdosing is an issue just about everywhere.

Yes but India takes it to another level.it is also the second largest country by population which makes a huge difference.

Doesn't quite answer my question but an interesting article which outlines interesting points.

Who would want to live in India? Not only do we want to kill the supply of coal for their basic needs, we now need to limit the vital medicine they need!

A new take on the Rich v Poor

Just received an email from our kids school about this virus, listing a number of things to do if ...... I'm thinking this must be a National alert to all schools?

School is back tomorrow.

some schools are quarantining or banning students even when they are well. Some boarding schools isolate well boarding students who have been to Wuhan/China to another separate dormitory but they can attend class if well. Most public schools are just saying if unwell or exhibiting symptoms - go to hospital/dr

Which is not necessary. If asymptomatic then low (edited from no)chance of transmitting infection.
The feds are using a monitoring rather than quarantine approach.

And if well don’t need to wear a mask.

If people take the approach of self reflection that as soon as you feel symptoms, then this will pass soon.

it has since been discovered that a passenger on the last MU flight has developed symptom.

Apparently AUS has a national mask stockpile of 12mil. Learn something new everyday.
