Hi, I'm hoping someone can give me a clearer answer than what the airline customer service or my travel agent has given me.
I've booked flights from SYD to MCO with a layover in LAX. The first leg of the trip is via VA but The flight is a DL number. The rest of the my trip is via DL.
So I have two questions;
Firstly, where do I check in when I go to SYD airport? Do I go to the DL desk or the VA desk?
Secondly, do they send my check in luggage all the way to MCO, which is my last stop or do I have to pick my suitcase up at LAX and re-check in?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Always checkin with the operating carrier but it's not clear from your post if you're booked on a VA codeshare operated by DL or DL codeshare operated by VA.

What are your flight numbers?

Sorry if my post was unclear.
The flight number from SYD to LAX is DL6799.

You'll be collecting your luggage in LAX and clearing customs and immigration there. You'll then need to re-check your bags. You should have allowed at least 90 mins between flights, but hopefully 2 hours or more.

The flight number from SYD to LAX is DL6799.

This still doesn't answer the question asked by
ozbeachbabe or provide enough information to answer your first question. You will check in with the operating carrier.

1. You check in with Virgin Australia in Sydney.

2. You collect your bags in LA and go through passport control then if you bag is already tagged to MCO then there is a belt for connecting flights.
If you have boarding passes then go to the Delta terminal check the boards for flight departure gate and go through security.

Ive done this, it was a DL flight/booking but flying VA metal. You book in at Virgin Aust desk in Sydney.

cheers,

It does to me - it means a DL codeshare on VA metal.

Check-in is with VA.

Yep, this will be a Virgin Australia aircraft, it will be operating as VA1 so keep an ear out for any announcements mentioning that flight number :)

As mentioned above, you will need to collect your luggage on arrival in LAX (everyone arriving on an international flight does) but if they check it through to MCO for you in Sydney you will just need to clear customs and immigration in the Tom Bradley International Terminal, collect your bag and then drop it off at the DL transfer belt (there is usually a bit of a scrum with a bunch of transfer belts for different airlines in the one place) then head out of the International Terminal to the correct Delta terminal before clearing security again for your domestic leg.

LAX sucks, but just remember, grab your bag after you clear inbound immigration, drop it off again before you leave, and then just head to the Delta terminals (they're both connected) if you get stuck there should be staff around.
