I am flying in J to Jakarta this week. My nephew and niece are on the same flight. I am going to try and get them into the Qantas Club in Sydney just by asking at the desk. I am wondering though if I can check myself through the Business check in as well as them afterwards? They are not seasoned travellers at all and I am responsible to look after them while away. This was one way of trying to stay together at the airport. Does anyone know if his will create problems at check in?

Since you're a related family group on the same flight I see zero issue with checking in at J since you are allowed to. The lounge may be another issue, but depending on how old they are it may be no issue. Good luck.

I have checked in many times with travel companions (even if not on the same PNR) at the business check-in counters, when I've been entitled to use them and my travel companions would otherwise not have been. It's never been an issue.

btw just on the lounge - a J pax can of course bring in a guest, but since there's two of them that's where it may be tricky, but I'm thinking just saying they're related should probably be enough. Hopefully :)

Checked in as Gold member a few weeks ago at the Business check-in counter at LAX with four members of my family on the same flight. No problem whatsoever.

What about F check-in as a WP? Can one check-in with multiple family members on the same booking?

I recently checked in a group of 12 all in Y on a CX flight in KIX in the F checkin with my QF card. This was across 4 bookings.

I dont think it will be a problem.

Absolutely no reason why this would be an issue.. even more so for the same booking when one member has appropriate status.

If your niece and nephew are under 18 thye should be treated as kids and getting into the lounge no issues

Just an update: I did get one guest in but the second one was told in no uncertain terms they could not get in. Fortunately I had a guest pass they could use. They were like kids in a lolly shop in the lounge. I shouted them an upgrade on Garuda to J. It inspired them to keep studying hard to achieve a lifestyle they didnt know existed.

So i take it as expected J checkin went fine?

I swear the rules used to say anything under 18 didnt count towards guest access. The rules seem to say under 3 now.

Pretty much the same here, I've done buisness class and checked in my brother at same time who was flying Y. I check in at the buisness counter for any flight (I'm QF Club) and check in my missus as well when both flying Y.

Mum is Gold, I am silver, sister (u18) and father bronze. Never had any issues with accessing priority check in when travelling together with mum's Gold status. Although I'd say 30% of the time the check in counter staff neglect to put on the priority bag tags, but still most times all the bags are checked through with priority tags. Also use the business class boarding lines even when travelling in Y, although sometimes that line is moving so slowly your'e better off in the normal line.

Of note, despite being over the allowed guest limit (two over 18 guests + u18 child), QF J lounge in HKG recently had no qualms in letting us all in. Not sure if they thought I was under 18 or just didn't care, the lounge was not very busy until about 25 mins before boarding. Very glad because the main terminal is quite chaotic and the HKG lounge has great views out over the apron and is an excellent place to unwind before the overnight trek back home. Despite reduced guest capacity given the renovations 2 of us still got in as guests in MEL domestic Qantas Club,.

Not just the boarding lane but also check-in lines! My QF flight last year from MEL had a business class queue half way to the door of the terminal, wait times about 30 minutes. Economy had packed out the hall but at least was moving with 6 or so counters. I waited 30 seconds in the business queue then saw a gap for the premium economy lane. Empty. Went right to the front and was served immediately. The agent commented I should have been in the business queue and I feigned surprise saying I thought OWR was only entitled to PEY check-in :)
