Hello, i'll be travelling from CHC to SYD via Qantas with Intransit to SYD going to Philippines with waiting time of 4 hours..question: i will be checking a baggage do i need to pass and clear immigration to be able to get back my checked baggage?

@mhebercasio , welcome to AFF.:)

If you are booked on the one ticket CHC-xSYD-MNL, your bags will be transferred at Sydney and you won't see them until you arrive at the Phillipines.

For yourself at Sydney, just follow the signs for international transit - there would be no need for immigration and customs.

If you are on separate tickets then this may be different.

It is an international to international connection, through an international area of an international terminal. Provided they check bags through from New Zealand to the Philippines, there is no need to enter SYD immigration. You just go through screening at the international connections.

Thanks Himeno :) im on a different airline/ticket..CHC to SYD is via Qantas (will checked baggage from here) then SYD to Philippines via Cebu Pacific airline not really confident and sure how i can transfer my checked baggage from Qantas to Cebu Pac :(

In that case, if they are both on different bookings, Qantas won't check through and you'll have to enter Australia to collect bags and recheck.

and remember it can take an hour or so to enter australia through border control and baggage collection. If your inbound flight is delayed or late etc your outbound flight wont wait or assist you if you miss check-in time
