Gooday All,

I'm flying out on BA16 next week, which departs at 16:30. What is the earliest time I can check in?

I'm flying into SYD from MEL and my flight gets into SYD at 11am, therefore I was wondering if I could check in early.

Thanks.

Is your MEL-SYD flight on the same booking? If so you should be able to check your bags through to LHR from MEL.

Thanks opusman - yes it's all on the same booking.

So in Melbourne you'll be able to check in for your LHR flight as well, and they'll check your bags through so you don't need to collect them in Sydney. When you arrive in Sydney you just need to get yourself to T1 and head through immigration at your leisure.

Aplogies for bumping an old thread but can anybody confirm when the BA desks open at SYD? I have searched and seen earlier threads that suggest it was around 4 hours before departure but can anyone confirm if this is still the case? Thanks.

Answering my own question I have contacted BA and they have replied that the desks open 3 hours before departure.

In practice it can be 3.5hrs.
They are manned by qf staff so no incentive to open it out early.

Given they would be paid for the exact number of hours they are contracted to work and provide the service why would they open early? Indeed they may actually be prohibited from opening early.

Do they operate a separate priority line or do you just go to the QF priority desks? I seemed to recall BA doing the reverse in LHR - that was back in the JV days. I've never flown BA ex-AUS.

no BA have their own counters which they open ~3.5 to 3 hours before departures.
at around ~4 hours pre departure, they start setting it up (using QF staff) - but the booking systems are very much different

It was up and running (and quiet) at 13.10 when I arrived at the airport today.
