What's the cheapest way to keep Virgin Atlantic flying club account active for someone living in Australia without taking a flight in the near future or uses Amex? Thanks

Renting a car with Hertz is one option - they also have a Shop & Earn program if you fancy buying something online.

Single day car hire with credit points to Flying Club would be my thoughts.

Generally Flying Club is the only program to credit hire car mileage, its very lucrative.

As in points are based on distance travelled in the hire car?

As in 1000 pts per hire or 1100 if hertz gold :), the DRW Avis office now know why I have a new rental every day!

I have about 12,000 points for myself and 11,000 points for my partner. Rather than trying to earn to keep active, what's the best way to redeem these points and close the account? I don't think spending $50 x 2 is worth keeping the points on car hire.

I have checked the fine print, virgin atlantic don't seem to allow family transfer, is this right?

Both of us has accumulated velocity and QFF points, if there is a way to transfer those into any one of these.

Thanks

SYD-HKG return in Premium Economy can be head for circa $1500 + 7,500 points (Miles Plus Money Fare)

SYD-HKG one way in Business can be had for 40,000pts each - by buying points this would you cost you under 400GBP at present with the 15% Buy Points Bonus

Not going to be cheap to extend the life of the miles for another 36 months unless you hire a car as mentioned or stay in one of the partner hotels.

Another option is to purchase miles but unfortunately the first 1,000 miles purchased costs £30.00

There is, although hefty points loss. Both join Priority Club (loyalty program of intercontinental hotels group), then you will be able to transfer 10,000 points to priority club at 1:1 (increments must be in 5,000), then you can transfer at 5:1 to either Qantas or Velocity. So you would get 2,000 Velocity or QFF pts each. Is probably last resort, maybe better than getting absolutely nothing.

Alternatively you could the first part of this, and leave them in the hotel program for a while and then decide, there might be an alternative to transferring to airline.

You can earn points by using UK shopping partners through the flying club link on the website. With the AUD/GBP the way it is I get great quality business shirts from Jermyn St shops for about $35 AUD equivalent, and points to keep the account ticking over.

You can earn by shopping on ebay.co.uk.
So you can really just buy something for a few dollars via ebay. Miles take a few weeks to come through though.

Try some of these :

Virgin Games (think you can open an account with just £10 - may even get some bonus miles)
Virgin ISA
eRewards membership - free - and reward for completing surveys is points you can transfer to flying club

ERewards only credits to VS for members not resident in Australia.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

How would they know?

IP address for a start, and VS would flag it as a non credit based on your residential address in their system, unless you want to put a UK address in, but hardly worth it IMHO, a quick ebook purchase online will solve the problem. Anyone who rents cars would have a current VS account regardless ;)
