Hi, I'm flying to London return in Dec-Jan, got the wife and daughter into J using points via HKG but 3 weren't available, so I'll be paying my way (and attending a conference when there so at least its deductible!). My question - what is the cheapest way I can do that while still getting full status credits for the entire trip? I had explored using points to get to HKG then paying to fly CX with them to LHR, but that is pretty wasteful. I'm looking at just biting the bullet and flying QF all the way via Dubai and joining them in LHR, but is there a cheaper OW flight I could take that would get me the same (or close) status credits? Thanks for any suggestions!!

Going by your premise that flying via HKG allows full SCs (and I'm pretty sure it doesn't!), points to MNL and then buying AY flying CX and AY via HKG and HEL would cost around $4500 return ex MNL.

Ex-Seoul is available on the AY website for about $4900 return - and I don't think ICN hits the QFF SC exclusion list (yet!).

Obviously you'd have the additional $$$ cost to your points and the inconvenience of travelling separately to the family ....

Regards,

BD

Thanks v much BD, yes it sucks not travelling with the team. I'll look into those suggestions - thanks again!

Not wanting to hijack the thread too far - but on the same topic, whats the cheapest AUS-LHR J ticket (sale) youve seen in the past few years?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

We have recently paid $5891 rtn per person. It was a Couples Sale (or whatever they call it) so you needed 2 people flying to qualify.

You will only get full SCs by flying on a QF flight number. If you fly any other 1W partner then you get shafted on SCs under the Simpler and Fairer rules. As BD1959 mentioned, there are still one or two ports that are not covered QF's coughpy system so you end up earning reasonably well.

Which airline?
I'm looking at SYD_LHR possibly in J next year so keen to hear more.

Thanks.

Finnair currently doing approx 3800 Sydney to Europe this European summer. QF codeshare to Bangkok. Absolute bargain.

So QF23 to BKK and then Finnair onwards? I'd also be keen to maximise SC (trying to teach Gold).

if you were not that focussed on SC you could maybe get a Sri Lankan J fare out of BKK or SIN for about $2700 return, then buy a cheap positioning flight to Asia.
Also Qatar has really cheap deals in J out of Asian ports to London

use ITA matrix search (don't forget to change the country of ticketing) and you shall find your fares ;)

Origin of BNE: QF to NRT via SYD. BA (JL codeshare) to LHR. JL to HND. QF to BNE via SYD.

I believe QF were the ticketing airline, but I found it via kayak.com.au and then got Escape Travel to price match after they confirmed the fare actually existed.

Qatar have a sale now in MNL until April 19. Unfortunately travel is valid up to Dec 10 only. A random date in July MNL -LHR return is US$2338

Wouldn't the DOH/LHR/DOH legs earn reduced SCs?

BD

Thanks for the suggestions. I'd be quite happy to travel with AY - a reputable airline.

AY via BKK earns more SC than via SIN/HKG under the new "simpler/fairer" QFF rules.

It has become our new transfer point to EU locations. Used to be 140 but now 120 ... oh well life goes one.
