I’m planning my first Circle Pacific trip for later in the year and have a gotten a lot of great advice from the archives. Thanks so much to everyone!

At the moment, routing would be something like DPS-SIN-HKG-NRT-SFO-LAS-LAX-SYD-DPS which fits into a DCIR22. The aim would be to ticket through the CX office Jakarta (someone prev. posted that CX Jakarta take Aus credit cards over the phone).

From what I’ve read, the cost of this ticket would be:
$3995 (base fare) + $234 (3 extra stopovers) + taxes.

Unable to find a tax calculator anywhere, I just made some dummy bookings in Expedia and estimated taxes to be somewhere in the region of $1000.

So my question is… what’s the catch? This fare is so much cheaper than individually booking business seats that I’m a little cautious. Have I overlooked a cost? Is there poor seat availability?

Thanks in advance.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Jakarta CX office take Australian Visa or Mastercard. You have to be there in person if you want to use AMEX.

You just have to present your credit card when you check in for the first flight.

Do not use the QF jakarta office. They have no idea how to book a DCIR fare.

Hop onto expert flyer, choose the flights with D availability and either call or email the CX jakarta office. They are very professional. Can all be booked within a day if you call in the morning.

I heard that OW have increased the DCIR fare. I'm not sure if the prices you have are still current. The OW site may not have been updated.

Also you routing may have to change. I think the first flight must be on CX (DPS-SIN is on QF, this could also be an all Y flight). How about DPS-HKG? or CGK-HKG?

Not sure about the price but I would use AA instead of CX. I would also purchase via the AA Manila office as it is cheaper that CX Jakarta. This will be cheaper as AA charges less in fines ect.

You don't have to fly the first leg with the issuing carrier though I would have my trans-pac on AA code share if available. This will give you a status bonus if crediting to QF.

AA booked my seats and had it priced in USD for purchase in the Philippines within 24 hours, this was via the AA RTW desk in Dallas. I called Manila and paid for it 6 hours later (via EFT). 16 segment e-ticket was issued 24 hours later.

I don't have the number for AA RTW desk handy but i am sure that someone here will jump in with it shortly.

Note that whilst I did this with a DONE3 I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't work the same with a DIRC22.

You don't have to fly the first leg with the issuing carrier ...

CX offices usually insist on having the first segment (or first intercontinental segment) to ticket such bookings on their stock.

Per oneworld.com (which might not be updated) there's negligible difference between ex-Philippines (USD3813) and ex-Indonesia (USD3816) base fares . Booking via AA in MNL will no doubt be cheaper due to lower +++s levied by AA. If you're willing to jump through some extra hoops to save some +++s, AA's ATW desk and their GSA in MNL are rather efficient in ticketing these bookings and very easy to deal with.

AA ATW Desk in Dallas can be contacted at +1800 247 3247, whilst the MNL GSA's number is +632 817 8645

How did you go with this (Did you use AA RTW desk or Cathay)? Where did you end up having it ticketed and did they take your AUS credit card?
