So I'm reasonably new at chasing points. It's kind of addictive. I primarily fly domestic for work and I'm gradually moving into J as I develop a focused points collecting strategy.

I stay in a lot of serviced apartments. I don't do hotels much because I like the space and amenities of an apartment. I'm not loyal to any particular brand. I'm self employed so pay for it myself. I chase comfort, value and location.

I've discovered buying accommodation via Groupon via Virgin's e-store nets me 10 points per dollar spent. I can accelerate this a bit by paying with certain cards. Groupon obviously has it's pros and cons. Primarily, you need to call the property to see if they will honour the voucher on the dates you want.

So I'm reaching out to see if any one on this site knows of any other sites that sell (decent) accommodation in Australia that provide a similar point return per dollar spent - VA or QF, I use both.

Thanking you

Virgin Australia Holidays provides 3 points per $1 spent.
Qantas Hotels has 3 points per $1.
Never seen anything higher on a regular basis than 6 points per $1 with Qantas.
I think that 10 points per $1 spent via Groupon is quite on the higher scale.
Qantas does have 500 per stay, fixed, at some hotels overseas, but this is a down side if you stay more 1 night.

I usually only ever book single night stays with a cancellable rate and if plans change I can keep the nights I need and change/cancel the other night(s) free of charge.

Is groupon back to 10 points again? I saw it was back down to the normal earn rate just recently on the velocity e store.

Other than that, booking hotels/flights through flybuys. Id only consider it when they have the promotions like 10x points. Then just transfer fb to velocity when they have the 15% bonus (theres one on this month)

I base my travel accommodation based on location, value and review considerations.
Also I'm the same as JohnK where I will tend to favor a flexible rate which can be cancelled.

It's knowing when to and when not to chase points and what you are comfortable with. For me hotel accommodation isn't one of them. If I'm able to get points I'm all for it.

(Have noticed when you book with Delta, the hotel deals there can be really great, but they are advance purchase only.)
