I've booked two T class fares ("premium economy sale") from Santiago to Sydney as part of a return trip and now need to change the return to a date one week prior, ie the 14th of Jan.

They were booked for about $1750 each way. Qantas site is showing "premium economy sale" fare as available that day, for $2495.

Expertflyer is saying: J9 C8 D0 I0 U0 W8 R0 T0 Z0 Y9 B9 H9K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O0 G0 X0 E0 , ie no T class fares left on that date.

Are we screwed, ie ($200 + (2495-1750)) *2 = $1890 to change?

I'm unable to do via Qantas.com as it was booked via a travel agent (mate of mine) and unfortunately the travel agent isn't available for a couple of days, also seeking advice here in case anyone has any ideas.

Re: Changing a T (discount premium economy) class fare on Qantas - fare difference?

What class are the Qantas.com PE sale fares booking into.

(FWIW, E/F shows availability for USA or GB POS, not AU, so can vary.)

It says Premium economy Sale, Saver and Flex are all bookable, although "sale" is now 2495. Not sure how to see what class they are booking into though?

Depends on how you define screwed...

I have the 2nd half of a LAX-BNE T class ticket that I changed once online, paid the $200 change fee but the sale was still on. Called the other day to make another change, fares are significantly different, I bought the ticket in Sept 2015. Change fee was almost the same price as the original return ticket.

Changing tickets bought during a sale will almost always result in a fare change plus change fees.

Cheers

Thanks. Couldn't get the greasemonkey script working straight up but was able to reverse engineer it. Classes T and T are the classes each way (the second being the one that i'm interested in). So i guess the question becomes, if i'm booking into the same class, do I need to pay the difference, or only if i'm booking into a higher class?

It would appear that the sale is still on, with T fares still available, but they are dearer than the one i purchased.

Code:

** AMADEUS AVAILABILITY - AN ** SYD SYDNEY.AUNS 135 SA 14JAN 0000

             H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S1

T class is still available with 9 or more seats available from an AU PoS.

The change fee normally in T class is $200 per person. There should be no fare difference as the change will be repriced using historical fares.

Thank you everyone.

Just to complicate things further, the ticket is ADL-SYD-SCL and SCL-SYD-ADL. I've upgraded the domestic legs to J with points (confirmed), and requested a J upgrade for the international legs.

I finally got onto my travel agent who got onto his wholesaler who is saying that they can't change it on their end, due to the upgrades, and I rang qantas who said my travel agent has to deal with it. Hopefully today it can be sorted.

I'm thinking I should just ring qantas myself and:
- find out when the sale ends (important!)
- if it is ending soon, request for them to release the upgrades (i'm sure i'll forfeit some points but thats OK), so that my travel agent can do what they need to do to get it changed.

Any suggestions/thoughts?

It does complicate things with the upgrades but it doesn't stop it from being reissued. You may just need to contact QF later to get the refund of the points.

You may still need to pay a fare difference if today's sale fares are higher than when you purchased. Unfortunately the historical fares only apply after you've departed on the first flight (unless you already have, in which case it will just be the change fee).

These ones are always fun!

I think madrooster is correct and historical fares will apply because the fare breaks are not being changed. So it should just be the change fee. Here's an extract of fare rules for voluntary changes from the current T class sale fare.

IN THE EVENT OF CHANGES TO TICKETED FLIGHTS
BEFORE DEPARTURE OF JOURNEY AND WITHIN TICKET VALIDITY
CERTAIN DOMESTIC REISSUE PROVISIONS MAY BE OVERRIDDEN
BY THOSE OF QF INTERNATIONAL FARES

2. QF FARES GOVERNED BY SAME RULE ARE USED
3. PUBLIC FARES ARE USED IF TICKETED FARE IS IN
PUBLIC TARIFF. PRIVATE FARES ARE USED IF TICKETED
FARE IS IN PRIVATE TARIFF
4. ALL RULE AND BOOKING CODE PROVISIONS ARE MET
5. ADV RES IS MEASURED FROM NEW TKT ISSUE DATE IF

OR -

You will need to get the upgrade reversed by QF first so that the original B class domestic seat is back in the PNR (and the ticket revalidated - NOT reissued !!!! very important !!!!). Then your agent will be able to reissue the ticket with the change.

Thank you everyone.

My travel agent had to ring qantas (2 hours on hold apparently), they were able to sort it out over the phone by speaking to a supervisor etc. $200 + $40 phone fee each, so $480, i'm fine with that.

Only thing is that for the return T flight it no longer has a status of "upgrade requested" (to J) and via the website i'm not able to request an upgrade. I guess i'll call them again to see if they can do that over the phone.

Just a heads up that if you need to make any further changes to the ticket, you'll have to speak to QF as your agent will have now lost control of the booking.
