Change to SQ Earn Rates

Unfortunately this change was always going to happen at some stage.

The reduction in SC earn on the old Flexi Saver fares is the big negative here (these are now discount Y for SC earn in W, M, H and L classes).

AUSBT said they've been told by VA that if you've booked prior to 13 March you'll be unaffected by the changes and will still earn at the old rate. Unfortunately the VA website doesn't confirm this and I've had the same change occur last year to me.

I'd booked SQ operated VA coded flights and then VA changed the earning for VA coded flights. They has a message on their website saying that those booked prior to a certain date would still have the old rates. Sure enough, I had to chase them up on that one and I guess I'll have to do the same again.

I've emailed velocity and asked them to update their website cause no doubt I will have to follow up at a later time. Or at least get some sort of communication back from them confirming.

The annoying thing for me is where I have a Premium Economy European trip and Perth - Singapore doesn't have Premium Economy, so I got ticketed as a "W" class fare which is "now" discount economy.

I've just done a dummy booking on the SQ website and it now allocats a "B" class fare which is fine for new bookings and of course checking my booking still reflects "W".

Hopefully, glad I booked those early 2019 trips on SQ a few weeks ago!

If this is indeed true, it could be a blessing (if you booked in classes where earn decreased P, H, M, L W) or a curse (if you were booked in classes where earn increased .. F, A, Z, C, J, S, T, V, K)

I hope something official gets put up in their website just like what they did with the Air New Zealand changes last year.

Well this is disappointing, I guess it was inevitable given the changes they made earlier in the year/late last year, but it's still quite annoying to lose it.

Not unexpected but geez the SQ Flexi Saver was usually a great SC per dollar earner.

I'm flying on a H fare next week (booked nine months ago) so I too have sent an email to Velocity asking for clarification.

My W class ticket flown on the 8th March was classified as Discount economy. I have Emailed velocity to get it looked into. Pretty sure I will get the SC's and points credited but frustrating to follow up.

Yeah my partner an I have some K flights to Beijing later this year, would have been nice if points earn was increased! I've found the cheap M and W fares a lot harder to come by in recent years, still it is a shame to lose this trick.

On the Velocity SC earn table, it now reads:

Discount Economy:
Singapore Airlines*: N, Q, V, K, L, M, H, W
So the link I provided above is not relevant? And 'L' has gone from Flexi Saver to the lowest earning Discount Economy? Makes no sense.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it, when the fare classes are listed as Economy on one table (points) and Discount Economy on the other (SCs). Although I note "L" is now listed as Discount Economy on both.

I want clarification on the VA website about those previously full economy fares booked before Mar 1.

Not sure if SQ actually use 'L' any more. It doesn't appear as a class in the fare family list.

I've received an email from Velocity confirming bookings made prior to 13 March 2018 will earn at the old rate.

Filed the email so I don't lose it.

Received a response to my email enquiry about my flight this week booked nine months ago saying please call to discuss.

Called to discuss and told that the new rates apply to all flights from 1 March 2018 regardless of booking date.
